JOB DESCRIPTION
The Practice Leader, Application Development and Modernization (ADM) will provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational oversight for a team of internal practice consultants who design, develop, and deliver solutions for Apex clients. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality project delivery, driving team performance, and aligning the practice’s capabilities with broader business goals. The Practice Leader will manage hiring, development, and mentoring a team along with building strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients. You will collaborate cross-functionality to identity growth opportunities, implement best practices, and maintain a culture of excellence and innovation within the practice.
Practice Leadership & Growth
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team diverse team of technologists
- Support the execution of the strategic roadmap for the ADM practice
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and professional development of practice team members.
- Foster a Community of Practice that leads with innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement and revenue growth.
- Own and deliver on internal innovation, capability building, and the creation of accelerators and reusable assets
- Oversee the successful delivery of large ADM projects across multiple clients.
- Lead delivery across all phases — strategy, architecture, development, testing, and deployment — ensuring alignment with client goals and business KPIs
- Operate as a delivery sponsor across engagements, ensuring quality, timelines, scope adherence, and client satisfaction
- Lead project team members and direct reports to produce high-quality deliverables, meet project deadlines, and take responsibility for engagement and team success
- Collaborate across disciplines including product, design, data, strategy, QA, and DevOps to deliver integrated, high-impact digital products
- Act as an escalation point for project issues and ensure timely resolution.
Solution Development & Standardization
- Oversee the design and implement repeatable, scalable, and standardized ADM delivery solutions by practice team.
- Collaborate with sales and pre-sales teams to develop repeatable solution architectures and proposals.
- Provide technical leadership and perspective on enterprise-scale, full-stack digital product and platform initiatives with a focus on performance, security, and scalability
- Define and guide solution architecture across modern tech stacks (cloud-native, headless, composable, microservices) for web and mobile platforms
- Proactively identify opportunities to integrate emerging technologies like AI, automation, and data platforms into product strategy and delivery
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure our offerings remain competitive.
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Proactively provide solutions and approach challenges with a solution-focused mindset.
- Build trust-based relationships and influence across client and internal organizations, including C-level and senior leadership acting as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their business needs and aligning solutions accordingly.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client meetings, RFP responses, and solution presentations.
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and long-term relationship growth.
- BA/BS required, preferably in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields OR relevant combination of education and experience
- 8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or technical delivery including:
- Leading delivery teams in a consulting or professional services setting
- Industry specialization in at least one of: Healthcare, Financial Services, Public Sector, Resources, Technology, Communications, or Media
- Demonstrated experience architecting and delivering modern digital products using Full stack services with knowledge across cloud services such as (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), APIs, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines
- 5+ years of experience of consulting experience and directly managing software developers or other consultants
- Ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions, roadmaps, and operational plans
- Experience with Agile and hybrid delivery models, including scaled Agile frameworks (e.g., SAFe)
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills — able to influence, guide, and present to executive leadership
- Proven ability to support and win new business through solutioning, proposal development, and client pitches
- Passionate about developing talent, building culture, and driving continuous improvement across teams
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts to engineering and business partners.
- Experience with AI/ML initiatives, implemented chat interfaces, or developed personalized digital experiences is preferred
- Leading and supporting transformation programs, enterprise product/platform modernization, or cloud migrations, is preferred
- Experience managing nearshore/offshore delivery models or working in globally distributed environments is preferred
- Experience contributing to IP, accelerators, frameworks, or thought leadership within a consulting firm is preferred
