Position Summary:
Our client, a respected manufacturer in Hauppauge, NY, is seeking a hands-on Accountant Analyst to join their collaborative finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this role is ideal for a candidate with strong cost accounting, general ledger, and financial analysis experience. You'll be part of a high-performing group, contributing to month-end close, cost variance analysis, and cross-functional financial operations.

Team Structure:
You'll join a tight-knit finance team consisting of:
1 Finance Manager (your direct supervisor)
1 Senior Analyst
2 Accounting Analysts (including this position)
1 Accounts Payable Specialist
1 Accounts Receivable Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
Perform heavy cost accounting and cost driver analysis to support manufacturing operations.
Execute month-end close activities, including journal entries, GL maintenance, and balance sheet analysis.
Prepare and analyze financial reports, including cost roll-ups, costing variances, and WIP (work-in-process) reports.
Ensure internal control compliance, operating within company policy and procedures.
Reconcile complex financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing detailed account information.
Support long-term contract costing and related financial planning tasks.
Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing and engineering teams to evaluate cost performance and identify efficiencies.
Use advanced Excel functions (V-lookups, pivot tables, formulas, charts) to perform spreadsheet-based financial analysis.
Work within a proprietary manufacturing reporting system (not QuickBooks); prior ERP system experience is required.
Assist in ongoing improvements to accounting procedures, systems, and internal controls.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with strong exposure to:
Cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
General ledger accounting
Financial reporting and analysis
Month-end close and reconciliations
Strong understanding of GAAP; familiarity with CAS and FAR is a plus.
Proficient in ERP systems and advanced Excel (V-lookups, pivot tables, formula creation, charting).
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
