General Responsibilities:
The Director of District Safety assists, advises, and supports administrators and staff regarding issues and/or concerns of school and district safety, including but not limited to the following:
- Evaluate instructional staff in accordance with APPR requirements
- Collaborate with administrators for building safety
- Hire, Manage, evaluate, and assign security attendants
- Organize security for after-school events, including working with the Athletic Director for sporting events
- Respond to and collaborate with law enforcement
- Review and act on facility usage requests
- Monitor and update the districtwide school safety plan
- Review and coordinate updates to building-level emergency response plans (BLERP)
- Collaborate with outside vendors
- Order supplies and equipment for district security needs
- Review and manage processes for surveillance cameras and other security systems
- Produce and provide staff and student identification badges and manage building access
- Chair and facilitate the district’s behavioral threat assessment management (BTAM) team
- Chair and facilitate the district’s bullying prevention committee
- Serve as the district's dignity act coordinator (DAC)
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
The successful candidate will possess:
- A successful record of experience as a school leader; AP or other
- Current and appropriate New York State administrative SBL or SDL certification
- Knowledge of current best practices and programs for school safety
- A passionate belief in the capacity of all children to learn and succeed and a sense of urgency about making that real for MCSD students.
- Ability to understand and use data to drive decision making
- Consensus building, strategic and collaborative management skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Strong communication skills
- Promoting a supportive school climate and knowledge with social-emotional competencies, restorative practices, and culturally responsive education.
- A demonstrated knowledge of teacher supervision and evaluation
- A demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to assist in supervising the overall security of the school
