Position Summary:
The Associate Dean of Admissions at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM) will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all recruitment and admissions activities across the colleges three campusesAthens, Dublin, and Cleveland.
This role will guide the development and execution of marketing strategies, student outreach initiatives, and the admissions selection process to recruit capable medical students committed to serving rural and underserved communities. These students, who will ultimately become physicians, will meet the primary care needs for the state of Ohio and beyond, which is vital to fulfill the schools mission. The Associate Dean will be responsible for effectively promoting Heritage Colleges offerings, showcasing the unique opportunities available to medical students, and presenting the institution in an engaging and accurate manner. In addition to managing recruitment and admissions, this position will lead the Early Assurance Program (EAP) for outstanding Ohio high school seniors to earn their undergraduate degree from an approvedEAPpartner school and their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Heritage College. These initiatives will serve as key recruitment tools and fostering future enrollment in the colleges Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program.
Primary Responsibilities:
1.STRATEGICADMISSIONSLEADERSHIP:
Ensures that all admissions operations are in full alignment with and support the achievement of theHCOMvision and mission. Oversee the administrative, financial, personnel, and logistical support related to the admissions process for theHCOM.
Marketing and Outreach: In collaboration with theHCOMOffice of Communication, develop and implement robust and effective marketing strategies to promote Heritage College, building strong partnerships with organizations to enhance student recruitment and broaden the colleges reach. Engage with our clinical partners to optimize their involvement in recruitment and selection of applicants. Data Analysis: Studies and analyzes national trends in applications, maintains statistical information, financial needs, and other relevant data to inform medical school recruitment strategies. Utilize data insights to drive decision-making and improve medical school recruitment efforts. Strategic Decision-Making: Evaluate and make high-level, strategic decisions related to marketing, recruitment, and student selection. Adapt strategies as needed in response to changing priorities, resources, and market conditions. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Student Selection: In coordination with the Student Selection Committee, identifying and selecting prospective students, ensuring alignment with the colleges academic standards, mission, and values. Increase clinical partners participation in selection for medical student interviews. Ensure a holistic approach to selection that supports the colleges goals. Impact on Reputation: Understand that the quality of student selection directly impacts the reputation and image of Heritage College, influencing both the college and the broader university community. Strive to uphold and enhance the institutions standing through thoughtful admissions decisions. Complex Decision-Making: Navigate complex and high-stakes decisions that carry significant consequences for the College and university. Consider both short-term and long-term implications when making critical medical admissions-related choices.
2.EARLYASSURANCEPROGRAM:
Lead and oversee the early assurance initiative aimed at enhancing the recruitment and preparation of students for high school to undergraduate degree and Heritage College medical school. This includes partnering, developing, implementing, and evaluating the program. The goal is to ensure a strong transition for high school students as future medical professionals and prepare students for success in medical education.
3.MANAGEMENT:
Lead and inspire a team of admissions professionals with a shared vision of training future primary care osteopathic physicians for Ohio and beyond. Provide comprehensive guidance, support, and direction to the team through performance management, mentorship, training, and coaching. Foster a collaborative and growth-focused environment that encourages professional development and aligns team efforts with the colleges mission and goals. Assist with content expertise for signature events at the Heritage College such as Convocation/White Coat, Commencement, and Orientation.
4.COLLEGE,UNIVERSITY,ANDEXTERNALSERVICE:
Serve as a voting member of the Heritage College Executive Committee, contributing to strategic decision-making and overall institutional direction. Actively participate in ad-hoc committees and cross-functional teams to address key initiatives and challenges. Representing Heritage College at the university, state and national levels, promoting the colleges mission, values, and achievements while building relationships with key stakeholders in the field of medical education and medical school admissions best practice.
