Qualifications:

Required:

  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Doctoral degree in Nursing or related discipline Experience in graduate nurse anesthesia education Experience in graduate-level curriculum development Current Licensure in Illinois as a Registered Nurse and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Excellent clinical skills Excellent interprofessional and communication skills Analytical and problem-solving skills essential for coordinating student clinical activities Research knowledge and/or experience Current member of the national and state organization of AANA Employed by Associated Anesthesiology Group or Saint Francis Medical Center

Preferred:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the clinical setting as a CRNA 3 years of management and teaching experience Active participation in professional associations

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the overall administrator of the Program Assumes primary responsibility for administration of the Nurse Anesthesia Concentration and maintaining compliance with the Council on Accreditation Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs Helps prepare and monitor the programs budget by being actively involved in its finances Delegates, organizes, and coordinates responsibilities of the program in a fair and consistent manner Responds to correspondence from the COA in a timely manner and completes documents requested by the COA, including the annual report, self-study, surveys, etc. Reviews College publications and website annually to ensure relevance and acurracy Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills Develops, promotes and maintains effective working relationships and open communication with staff, physicians, faculty, patients, families, students and other department staff and leadership Treats all with dignity and respect

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Holds primary accountability for curriculum development Teaches, as appropriate, in the classroom, online and clinical setting Organizes educational activities and resources within departmental guidelines and modifies them to meet the needs of the students Assures that clinical & didactic instructors meet the obligations of the Program Meets with students at intervals to discuss the overall progress including clinical and academic performance Actively engaged in learning enhancement activities to facilitate student learning and progression Supports the participation of staff members in educational activities Ensures patient safety through education and demonstration of competency Assures that diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated into the Program and its curriculum.

Scholarship Responsibilities

  • Actively engaged in quality improvement and evidence-based scholarly activities Attends national meetings as appropriate, specifically the AANA Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators and the AANA Nurse Anesthesia Annual Congress Attends appropriate state meetings when able Facilitates the approval and implementation of DNP projects in conjunction with the DNP Chair

Service (College and Community)

  • Chairs the Nurse Anesthesia Advisory Committee in collaboration with the Dean and assists with the admission process for CRNA students Serves as a member of the Graduate Committee, Assessment and Accreditation and other appropriate committees. Actively participates in committees, task forces, and work groups at department, hospital, college, professional, and community levels as appropriate; attendance is expected Coordinates and works collaboratively with the President, Provost, Dean, and faculty to ensure compliance with the policies of the COA, Associated Anesthesiology, Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing and OSF Healthcare entities
