The Security & Safety Specialist supports workplace safety initiatives by assisting with the administration of safety programs, tracking accident investigations, managing related internal communications, and performing essential administrative tasks aimed at accident prevention and employee education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation of current and future security systems (e.g., access control, badging)
  • Operate badge and access control systems, including data queries, issuing/suspending access privileges, and managing badges as directed
  • Assist in researching security solutions or trends in collaboration with supervisors or external providers
  • Stay informed about emerging safety and security trends and potential threats relevant to the organization
  • Assist in the implementation and administration of Swisher's safety programs, policies, and procedures to promote occupational safety and health
  • Distribute and explain safety materials; help educate the workforce on safety procedures and best practices to enhance awareness
  • Assist in identifying safety training needs and tracking requirements
  • Collect, maintain, and organize safety-related documentation, records, and reports (e.g., inspections, audits, training)
  • Provide input and feedback on current and proposed safety standards and initiatives based on observations and data
  • Ensure required safety documentation is compliant with relevant regulations and company standards
  • Assist in the documentation and investigation of minor accidents, injuries, and safety concerns to help identify root causes
  • Support the recommendation and tracking of corrective actions to improve workplace safety
  • Maintain accurate records related to incident investigations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related discipline
  • Two years experience in a role with significant safety and/or security responsibilities (e.g., safety committee member, EHS assistant, administrative role supporting safety/security functions)
  • Proficient with standard office computer systems (laptops, desktops) and software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with data entry and ability to learn specialized security or safety software (e.g., access control systems, incident reporting databases)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directives accurately, work independently on assigned tasks, and manage time effectively
  • Proficiency in data entry software applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Two years of experience in Safety and Health programs supporting heavy manufacturing
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Certification (General Industry)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
