Job Description:
Position: On-Prem SQL DBA
Location: Charlotte, NC or Maryland Heights, MO
- 4x/week onsite
Contract Length: Through EOY with likelihood to extend
- Usually up to 18 months
Top Requirements:
- On prem SQL databases
- Migrations or upgrades of on-prem SQL databases
- Performance troubleshooting, backups, configuration
- All issues might not be SQL issues, since we are still on prem, there could be issues with the network
Day to Day Responsibilities/project specifics: This person would be responsible for on-prem to on-prem SQL upgrades - the team upgrades about 3,000 DBs per year to ensure EOL versions stay functioning. Additionally, the team builds out new SQL environments. The team does have a deadline to decommission a large environment by the end of November and thus part of the role will also include decommissioning the legacy environment until that November goal is met. The role would include gathering requirements, submitting a build request for another team to build and then ensuring what was delivered was what was requested. Once complete, this person will create a run plan with the application team to outline what needs to be migrated (it’s not always the entire environment). Once agreed upon, this person would be responsible for installing/configuring SQL. This environment is entirely on-prem and thus patching, back ups, performance analysis as well as troubleshooting capabilities are extremely important. Additionally, a strong awareness of operating environments is required – there may be hard drive rewrite latencies impacting environments, networks impacting performance, etc. and thus a strong ability to write SQL queries is required. The team is seeking someone that can work on multiple projects at once as this is a fast paced environment.
