Position Summary

The Principal Data Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the data architecture of the organization. The Principal Data Architect works closely with the data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to ensure that the data architecture meets the current and future needs of the organization. The Principal Data Architect also oversees the data governance, data quality, data security, and data compliance policies and standards. This role is responsible for oversight of development and architectural standards and best practices while expanding and optimizing the data footprint across functional areas. Responsibilities include facilitating, evaluating, designing, and developing optimal solutions that support data and analytics initiatives, accommodate long-term growth, are easy to maintain/audit, all while also ensuring optimal delivery.

Compensation

This role is an exempt position with a targeted salary range of $120,000 to $176,000.

Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the development of conceptual, logical and physical data assets to execute on high-value enterprise initiatives and engages with project managers, data architects, business partners, and senior leadership to ensure optimal solution is designed to meet business needs.
  • Create and support a robust, flexible, and sustainable data architecture which includes toolsets, infrastructure, operational, and developmental processes and standards focused toward increased adoption and value-add of business intelligence and analytics.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise and Application Architecture functions to appropriately position Data Platforms within overall IT ecosystem role for a modern IT landscape, integrating analytics into operational processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the data engineers, data analysts, and data scientists.
  • Research and evaluate new data technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the data architecture and data capabilities.
  • Assist in the activities related to the drafting and maintenance of policies, standards, and procedures to facilitate the use and ensure the quality and security of the business intelligence environment and support security and data policies.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot the data architecture performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Manage the data architecture roadmap and prioritize the data architecture projects and initiatives.
  • Partner with key stakeholders, including the business unit leaders, Product, Data, and Technology teams, to assist with their data and analytics related technical issues and support their data and analytics infrastructure needs.
  • Collect data from primary sources and optimize the solution, improve quality of sourced data, and ensure consistent delivery of data and analytics to key stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Project Management to streamline the requests, assist in prioritization with the stakeholders, taking into consideration the technical solution, existing and upcoming dependencies, and team availability.
  • Use expertise to resolve high level issues that cannot be solved by teammates.
  • Consistently monitor and model platform usage, database sizes, compute resources and third- party costs to ensure that the data and analytics team spend is as cost-efficient as possible.
  • Champion data transformation to new ways of working and generating insights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or field related to the position or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum five years' experience in in Data and Analytics related role(s) and at least three of those years experience spent in lead position required.
  • Highly proficient in guiding teams to optimal solutions in various Data and Analytics platforms, architecture, and fulfilling business needs.
  • Highly proficient with multiple ETL/ELT tools & platforms, data warehouse design and modeling techniques, BI and reporting Tools, etc.
  • Highly proficient in leading troubleshooting and root cause analysis related to tools, infrastructure, process, and data issues, having strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient in concepts and implementation of Data Governance in similar industry.
  • Proven experience with data lake, data warehouse and analytics best practices on leading products in the marketplace.
  • Proven experience with querying and analyzing data from SQL relational databases such as AuroraDB, IBM DB2, MemSQL, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, and Redshift or Snowflake.
  • Experience with programming languages such as R, and Python as well as general purpose languages such as Java, Scala, C# or JavaScript.
  • Experience in working with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data in various popular formats and sourced from internal core systems as well as 3rd partner providers such as Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Zillow, CoreLogic, MLS Data, Public Records, and Property Data.
  • Strong data governance and process-oriented mindset to ensure highest quality of data is made available for data analysis and accuracy in reporting.
  • Ability to think critically, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to learn/adapt to new technologies and techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications required.

Requirements

Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards
Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
Environmental: Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Mental: Must be able to adhere to process protocol. Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner.
