As a Principal Engineer, you'll play a key role in driving technical solutions, guiding junior engineers, and supporting the successful delivery of evolving initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of system design, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on environment build and test execution. It's ideal for someone who brings deep technical expertise and a passion for driving progress in a fast-paced environment.


BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a Principal Engineer I on the Lab Architecture Services team, you will be responsible for leading complex lab initiatives, managing end-to-end project execution, and mentoring junior engineers. You will partner closely with Design Architects, end to end test teams, advise leadership, and translate high-level architectural strategies into actionable system designs. The ideal candidate has proven project leadership experience, is proficient in Jira, Confluence - Chalk, Lucid or Visio, and excels at technical documentation and communication. The candidate must have served as a subject matter expert in at least one core Line of Business (Video, Voice, Mobile, or High-Speed Data) with a strong willingness to take on work across any area of the business. You will proactively research, analyze, solution and provide recommendations to Lab teams that support and test end-to-end integrations for our organization while ensuring engineering solutions align with business objectives.

  • Troubleshooting complex issues, analyzing system logic, and continuously improving documentation and integration workflows.
  • Collaborating with peers and cross-functional teams to review and enhance system designs, ensuring alignment with architectural direction.
  • Serving as trusted technical advisors to regional and lab personnel, supporting seamless integration and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Mentoring and leading junior engineers, helping them grow while ensuring project success through shared expertise and guidance.
  • Taking ownership of work plans, suggesting improvements, and driving solutions forward with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.
  • Embracing opportunities to expand into new areas of the business, conducting research, performing deep-dive analysis, and recommending effective solutions to enable lab teams.
  • Upholding compliance with applicable industry regulations and company policies while maintaining flexibility to take on evolving responsibilities.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Engineering work experience - 5+ years
    • Project management work experience - 5+ years
  • Education: Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
  • Technical skills:
    • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
    • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
    • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
    • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
    • Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of business users in a professional manner.
    • Extensive experience with collaborating and building team consensus when interacting with both the leadership and the implementation teams.
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
    • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
    • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Travel Ability: Office environment
  • Schedule:
    • Full time
    • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experiencing working in a Lab or Engineering environment within an MSO or Telecommunications organization.
  • Proficiency with diagramming and system design tools such as Lucid or Visio.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint for documentation and team collaboration.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or leading project teams in a technical environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing or contributing to Infrastructure projects (networking, virtualization, system integrations).
  • Strong communication skills and experience advising or presenting to technical leadership.
  • Knowledge of company products and core service offerings.
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred.
    • Cloud Certifications AWS/GCP/Azure Cloud, Kubernetes Admin.
    • Infrastructure & Networking - DEVOPS, Kubernetes, CCNA, JNCIS, etc.
    • CableLabs related training.

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
