Qualifications: Cardiology department experience required. Willing to obtain CCDS after 2 years and successful completion of the training program - including CRM (cardiac rhythm management) jumpstart ATI Training (in South Carolina).
The FT Cardiac Device Tech 1 performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management, such as ICD, Pacemaker and ILR evaluations for outpatients, inpatient and procedure areas.
Will consider candidates with experience with cardiology procedures or within a cardiology practice including, but not limited to: CMA's, LVN's, monitor techs, PCT's, EKG techs, clinical exercise physiologist with cardiac rehab experience.

Job Summary
The Cardiac Device Tech Trainee manages implanted cardiac devices like ICDs, Pacemakers, and ILRs. They evaluate outpatients, inpatients, and procedure areas under supervision. They perform pacemaker testing and remote monitoring. They interpret data and recognize life-threatening cardiac issues needing referral to EP or Cardiology Service. This position ensures patients and families are educated and receive necessary monitoring and follow-up instructions.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Serves as resource to physicians and other practice employees regarding device patients and services.
- Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site. Documents any abnormality. Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision.
- Ensures charges are accurately captured for device interrogation.
- Troubleshoots critical device issues and take immediate steps toward resolution.
- Partners with physicians regarding device status and accurately document device research in EMR for review.
- Educates patients on all aspects of their device including remote monitoring and follow-up protocol.
- Promotes a healthy clinical environment and good working relationships.
- Participates in positive, proactive inter- and intra-departmental communication.
- Keeps equipment in good working condition and notifies personnel of problems or safety issues. Ensures programming rooms have necessary supplies.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Key Success Factors
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate interpretations.
- Pursue a certificate from an approved device technical school like Arrhythmia Technical Institute (ATI). They provide a formal curriculum in cardiac pacing, defibrillation, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and electrophysiology.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias.
- Ability to acquire proficiency in ECG interpretation.
- Basic computer skills and electronic management of medical records.
- Ability to use philosophy and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Must be able to obtain BLS certification within 3 months of hire date.
- Within six months to one year after hire or proof of completing a rhythm interpretation and management program. (Internal or external accepted).
- Preferred to become IBHRE certified within 3 years of experience.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
