Juniata College invites applications for the position of Instruction and Student Success Librarian. The Instruction and Student Success Librarian provides strategic leadership for the integration of information literacy into Juniata College's academic programs and general education. This position plays a central role in designing and assessing information literacy skills that develop students' research fluency, critical thinking, and ethical use of information, including emerging technologies.
Working closely with faculty and the Statton Learning Commons team, the librarian supports the alignment of information literacy outcomes with both general education and program specific information literacy outcomes. The position leads assessment efforts to evaluate student learning and uses those findings to shape responsive, data-informed instruction. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the librarian helps guide the library's student staffing model.

Responsibilities:
Lead Information Literacy and Assessment
Develop and articulate a strategic vision for information literacy that prepares Juniata graduates to think critically, ethically engage with information, evaluate credibility, and responsibly use emerging technologies such as generative AI.
Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to define institutional learning outcomes that integrate the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy into the General Education curriculum and academic programs.
Design and lead a sustainable, campus-wide assessment strategy to measure information literacy outcomes, ensuring alignment to general education and programmatic goals.
Leverage assessment data to continuously refine instruction, address student learning gaps, and support Juniata's mission of fostering academic excellence.


Academic Department Liaison
Cultivate sustained, strategic partnerships with academic departments, particularly in STEM fields, to embed information literacy into the design and delivery of courses, assignments, and scaffolded research experiences.
Collaborate with academic departments to define and implement program-level information literacy outcomes, supporting ongoing assessment as outlined in the faculty handbook.
Deliver targeted, course-integrated instruction that reflects disciplinary research practices and student learning needs, with a focus on foundational courses and other high-impact instructional touchpoints.
Co-create research-driven assignments, instructional materials, and assessment tools that reinforce information literacy as a core component of academic success and intellectual inquiry.

Lead information literacy services
Lead the strategic direction of the library's student staffing model aligned with the mission of the Statton Learning Commons.
Responsible for creating a culture of excellent customer service and coverage for the service desk, supporting end-user use of Learning Commons facilities & resources.
Co-lead the recruitment, training, and mentorship of a team of student employees alongside the Student Manager to ensure adequate availability of library services for the campus and local community.

Library outreach and engagement
Design and support outreach programs that foster curiosity, build community, and encourage students to see Statton as a space for exploration, creativity, and lifelong learning beyond the classroom.

Engages in professional development activities as appropriate to meet departmental goals and objectives.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent by the time of appointment).
Preferred experience in STEM related field
At least 3-5 years of experience in an academic library.
Demonstrated experience or coursework in instruction, assessment, and academic outreach.
Record of collaboration with faculty and students that demonstrate a deep understanding of information literacy.
Experience developing and implementing instructional strategies in partnership with faculty, including classroom engagement and alignment with program-level learning outcomes
Ability to leverage assessment for continuous improvement.
Demonstrated experience in the use of library related technologies, such as integrated library systems, content management systems (Springshare products)
Experience coordinating outreach related to student success.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute effectively in team-based and cross-functional environments.
Demonstrated initiative and adaptability in dynamic settings, with a willingness to experiment and embrace change.
Proven ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities with sound judgment and effective time management.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support efficient and creative approaches to library services and instruction.
