Objectives of this Role:
- Serve as project leader and contributor on projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Internal Research conducted at SwRI and Commercial Clients.
- Requires expertise in system dynamics, modeling, and controls to develop innovative solutions for energy efficiency, performance, and emissions reduction for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) and electrified powertrains.
- Responsible for program planning, customer interface, project oversight, and the direction of junior staff.
- Oversee and prepare bids, promotional efforts, and proposal presentations.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Serve as project leader and contributor on projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Internal Research conducted at SwRI and Commercial Clients.
- Requires expertise in system dynamics, modeling, and controls to develop innovative solutions for energy efficiency, performance, and emissions reduction for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) and electrified powertrains.

Requirements:
- Requires a Masters degree or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
- Must have 4 years of post-baccalaureate experience as an Engineer, or a related automotive engineering or research occupation.
- The 4 years of experience must include experience with modeling, simulation and testing of control algorithms for conventional, electrified or connected vehicle powertrains; MATLAB, Simulink, and GT-Power and dSPACE with Control Desk.
- The 4 years of experience must include experience with working on powertrain projects, including algorithm development and vehicle testing; collaborating with government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), industry partners, or academic institutions;
- The 4 years of experience must include experience with analyzing test and simulation data; troubleshooting issues, investigating systems in question & identifying root causes; communicating test data & results to clients by providing reports, PowerPoint presentations; publishing peer-reviewed technical or journal papers.
- The 4 years of experience must include experience with establishing methods and procedures for lab staff to conduct testing including written checklists and visual guides; and preparing bids, proposals and leading promotional efforts for new projects and clients.
- Must travel 10% domestically.
