JOB SUMMARY 

Instructors provide high quality instruction to foster student learning while maintaining a positive and engaging  learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis for instructors is on teaching and evaluating  students in the course. Classes are taught in a variety of formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online and at  several locations within the 5-county service area. Instructors also maintain regular communication with  students between classes and are responsible for several institutional duties such as committee work,  assessment, registration, and advising.  

In addition to the instructor responsibilities, the ECED Director leads the NAEYC accreditation reviews,  reports, and site visits to ensure compliance and program quality. The director will develop class schedules and 

oversee faculty recruitment and training. The director will develop and implement marketing strategies while  leading student recruitment and academic advising efforts. The director will build and maintain appropriate  partnerships with local schools and organizations for field placement and program collaborations. The director  serves as Chair of the ECED Advisory Board to help guide program development.  

The ECED Director normally teaches four classes in fall and spring semesters with one class release time and  an additional $1500 stipend for the summer semester. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field from a regionally accredited institution. • Minimum of four years of experience teaching and direct supervisory or leadership experience, which  should include at least two years in each of the following:  
  • Two years’ experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education. This can include, but  is not limited to: preschool setting, early childhood facility, prekindergarten setting, elementary  setting, early childhood advocacy, early childhood administration, etc.  
  • Two years’ experience teaching at the college level in an early childhood program. Experience  teaching with alternative delivery instructional modes: face-to-face, hybrid, online, interactive,  etc.  
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising student field placements, mentoring and advising student  teachers, and supporting students across early childhood and education programs in the field experiences  and observations.  
  • Working knowledge of the NAEYC accreditation process.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Faculty must devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours, and  secure approval for any commitments which might affect employment.  

Instruction (50%)  

  • Plan and teach classes as outlined in the course descriptions, course syllabi, and departmental guidelines.  Fulfill all instructional requirements as mandated by Cleveland State Community College and the  College System of Tennessee. 
  • Remain current in instructional field and teaching methodology.  
  • Maintain and safeguard all necessary records and report grades periodically as prescribed by the  Registrar. 
  • Update courses and policies as needed. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other academic divisions. 
  • Participate in graduation events. 
  • Participate in periodic evaluations. 
  • Serve students in academic advising including degree pathway and class registration through individual  advising appointments, enrollment events, and group advising.  
  • Maintain and safeguard all necessary records and report grades periodically as prescribed by the  Registrar. 
  • Update courses and policies as needed. 
  • Collect and analyze learning outcome data for program review and accreditation with NAEYC.  Prepare students to critically engage artificial intelligence technologies in educational contexts,  emphasizing ethical considerations. 

Early Childhood Education Director (25%) 

  • Lead accreditation reviews, reports, and visits, as well as education academic audits. Collect and analyze learning outcome data for program review and accreditation with NAEYC. Coordinate with local schools and organizations to maintain field experience and observation  partnerships. 
  • Develop and maintain MOUs and field experience day plans. 
  • Serve as primary liaison between Cleveland State and ECED/EDUC partners.  
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and other ECED/EDUC faculty to create class schedules. Recruit and train faculty. 
  • Request and complete program related p-card expenses. 
  • Work with the communications office to develop marketing plans and materials. 
  • Lead recruiting and advising. 
  • Chair the ECED Advisory Board and NAEYC Stakeholder meetings. 
  • Oversee compliance with Cleveland State Community College, the College System of Tennessee, and  SACSCOC policies and procedures. 
  • Work with the Dean and the Department Chair to create and maintain the program budget. Oversee course development/enhancements. 
  • Oversee the Service-Learning activities. 
  • Create and maintain articulation agreements with universities. 
  • Review all Prior Learning Assessment requests. 

Advising / Student Support (20%) 

  • Be accessible to students for advising, academic help, and assistance. 
  • Maintain advising records. 
  • Advise the Education Club. 
  • Support and participate in the recruitment and retention efforts of the college. 
  • Work with student clubs and the Office of Student Services on campus events/activities.

Committees and Service to the Institution (5%) 

  • Participate in institutional and academic unit meetings. 
  • Participate and represent Cleveland State Community College on Early Childhood Education and  Education (K-12) nationwide, statewide and local meetings. 
  • Serve on College committees and task forces. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Commitment to keeping current in the field of education (birth to grade 12) as well as computer  proficiency necessary for job performance, including the use of relevant software, databases, and digital  tools.  
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and the ability to manage confidential information and  records. 
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple  tasks/projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure, both independently and in team oriented environments. 
  • Strong analytical skills.

WORK ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT 

Job responsibilities involve maintaining two classroom/lab environments used to teach students using a variety  of technology in and out of the classrooms. Computers are used extensively for instruction, documentation, and  communication. Demonstrate and continually develop computer proficiency necessary for job performance. 

JOB LOCATION 

The position is an on-site role in the Mary T. Barker Humanities Building, located on the main campus of  Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. This will be the primary workplace, with  occasional travel and/or teaching responsibilities to off-campus sites and local schools within the five-county  service area and state-wide travel for TBR initiatives and state affiliate meetings as needed.
