Thryv is looking for a strong, strategic leader to manage and grow our team of UX researchers and content designers. The ideal candidate is experienced in product development, a competent and curious researcher, a user-centered content advocate, and an empathetic leader who thrives on collaboration and mentorship.
As Manager, UX Research and Content Design, you will lead a multidisciplinary team that helps shape the future of our product. This team joins expertise in user research and content design to generate insights, shape strategy, and deliver consistent, user-centered experiences. You will ensure that research and content are integrated across the product lifecycle—uncovering insights, guiding strategy, and crafting clear, inclusive, and cohesive user experiences. You will balance strategic thinking, people leadership, and operational excellence to help our teams design meaningful solutions that support small business owners and their employees.
The Product Design and Experience (PDX) team at Thryv is responsible for ensuring that design achieves its fullest potential by solving important problems and elevating the way small businesses utilize automation to grow. We need a Research and Design Leader who can help us build the next-generation platform experience to serve hundreds of thousands of small businesses worldwide. As a manager, you will not only be supporting elegant solutions to complex problems, but also leading the research and content teams to deliver impactful, cohesive work that positively impacts product experiences.
Responsibilities
- Provides guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback to UX researchers and content designers, supporting their professional growth and empowering them to deliver innovative, high-impact work that goes beyond the status quo.
- Develops and executes a cohesive research and content design strategy aligned with company values, user needs, and business goals, while playing a key role in shaping the overall product direction and design vision.
- Stays current on industry trends, tools, and methodologies, and encourages a culture of experimentation and learning that fuels creative problem-solving and breakthrough ideas.
- Oversees multiple projects across teams, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, efficient planning, and delivery of user-centered outcomes that meet both customer needs and business goals.
- Partners with product managers, designers, engineers, data and insights, and marketing to integrate research and content seamlessly into workflows, champion user needs, and serve as a strategic thought partner across departments.
- Builds and scales research operations, including participant recruitment and tool management, while establishing and evolving best practices, frameworks, and content standards to ensure clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
- Defines success metrics for research and content design, and clearly communicates team impact through strategic reporting, dashboards, and storytelling that influences stakeholders and drives decision-making.
- Upholds ethical research standards and inclusive content practices, while supporting hiring, onboarding, and resource planning to ensure the team has the skills and capacity to scale with product demands.
Who We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) or equivalent experience, required
- 6+ years of related experience, required.
- 2+ years of experience in people leadership or 4+ years in a senior, principal, or similar role involving significant team leadership and mentoring responsibilities, generative and evaluative research, and research operations required
- 8+ years of related experience, preferred.
- Expert in customer experience (CX), design thinking, agile product development, UX research, and content design, with the ability to apply a wide range of research methodologies—including generative, evaluative, and mixed-method approaches—as well as content design practices like UX writing, content strategy, voice and tone, and information architecture to create clear, inclusive, and impactful product experiences that drive measurable outcomes for both users and the business.
- Demonstrated expertise in organizing and executing work across multiple initiatives, with a clear understanding of how to scope for learning, iterating, and scaling within fast-paced product environments.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to prioritize research and content efforts, allocate resources appropriately, and align teamwork with strategic product goals.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams by providing actionable feedback, identifying growth opportunities, and applying leadership skills to elevate team performance and operational effectiveness.
- Expert communication skills, both written and verbal, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex ideas clearly, connect user insights to product decisions, and collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines and levels.
- Extensive experience collaborating with product development and alongside product and design leadership, with a proven track record of expanding influence across departments and driving innovation through strategic leadership.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling UX research and content design functions, including establishing best practices, operational systems, and scalable frameworks to support team growth and quality outcomes.
- Familiarity with tools such as Dovetail, Maze, Qualtrics, User Testing, Figma, or similar, demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset and an openness to adopting new technologies that support collaboration, execution, and innovation.
- Ability to travel less than 5% of the time.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening process, as required.
- Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses, as needed.
