





Project Estimator – Fossil / Hydro / Renewables
This posting serves to fill one (1) Project Estimator position located in Birmingham, AL
Summary of Position Duties:
The Project Estimator will perform estimating efforts on assigned engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) projects and will collaborate with other project team members to manage the development of estimates. Job responsibilities in this position include but are not limited to:
- Providing project cost estimates and variance analyses.
- Monitoring adherence to project scope and adjusting estimates due to change orders, work plan changes, etc.
- Maintaining a level of consistency and standardization on all projects.
- Establishing and maintaining a close working relationship with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Startup and other departmental personnel
- Travel within assigned region as required (up to 25%).
Education & Job Experience:
- College diploma or University degree in engineering or building science preferred or equivalent experience working in an estimating or projects environment.
- Project Controls experience on EPC projects is a plus.
- Project experience in the utility industry is a plus.
- Design of electric generating plant infrastructure and/or systems is a plus.
- Experience with WinEst is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge in use of database programs a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Have knowledge and ability to estimate all disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil and instrumentation & controls.
- Self-motivated with attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to perform all job requirements with minimal supervision.
- Solid understanding of estimating and material take-off techniques, unit price cost data, AACE classes of estimates, work breakdown structures (WBS), and estimating database use.
- Knowledge of estimating software and tools; (WinEst experience highly preferred).
- Knowledge of risk analysis, contingency, and escalation assessment.
- Understanding of heavy industrial construction procedures and methods and the impact of market conditions on project costs to properly reflect in estimate.
- Exhibit ability to work closely with project and construction managers, procurement, and departmental members to ensure consistency and standardization on all projects.
