Job Summary:

Under general supervision, play a key role in supporting the People & Culture (P&C) team by optimizing various P&C platforms, databases, and tools; serve as the internal expert on the Human Capital Management (HCM) system; perform a wide range of transactions with accuracy and efficiency while also providing support to end-users experiencing system issues; perform other duties as required. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of federal and state labor laws and reporting requirements, and a proactive, people-centered approach to improving HR systems and processes that enhance the overall employee experience and support organizational objective.

Core Activities:

  • Support various P&C databases and tools, with a primary focus on the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
    • Conduct regular audits of data, analyze and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with internal teams.
    • Support various P&C system implementations, integrations, and upgrades in collaboration with internal teams and vendors. Additionally, perform maintenance and updates to HCM, including managing securities and permissions.
    • Identify and recommend process improvements, system enhancements, and new capabilities.
    • Analyze and resolve systems issues in collaboration with HCM vendor.
  • Perform HCM transactions and serve as the internal subject matter expert/administrator for all transactions
    • Create and maintain employee records in the HCM, including but not limited to new hire data, job changes, status changes, salary changes, and separations, ensuring the successful completion of processes in collaboration with various teams (Payroll, IT, Security, and staff departments).
    • Create various reports from UKG and other P&C systems/databases.
    • Respond to data requests from key business stakeholders, including developing queries and gathering and compiling data to populate reports.
    • Provide end-user support and training, including troubleshooting and resolving HCM issues.
  • Support P&C continuous process improvement and innovation, leveraging a wide range of HR systems, tools, and applications.
    • Analyze existing workflow and processes.
    • Recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Document standard operating procedures and processes; update/revise documentation as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • 3 - 5 years People and Culture experience with a minimum of 2 years workforce analytics experience; solid understanding of People and Culture functions and processes is a must.
  • 3+ years HRIS/HCM database experience; UKG preferred.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and apply discretion and good judgement when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint, and virtual meeting/communication platforms.
  • Understanding of Federal/State (CA) labor and wage & hour laws.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and strong customer focus are essential.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adherence to compliance requirements are required.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • PHR/SHRM certification preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to work within and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium's Core Values.

  • Occasional unassisted lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Typical office environment, main aquarium and exhibits, occasional offsite events

Annual Compensation Range:

$68,640 - $82,000 Starting rate will vary based on previous experience and relevant skills/knowledge set
