Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Intermediate Lighting Designer to join our dynamic, integrated design team. In this role, you will take ownership of the lighting design scope across a variety of projects—guiding the development of design documentation, ensuring quality deliverables, and meeting project milestones. You’ll coordinate the work of supporting lighting designers and collaborate closely with project managers to align with client needs and support the financial success of each project. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your leadership in lighting design while contributing to meaningful, innovative work in a collaborative environment.
What you will do:
- Apply DLR Group design and BIM standards to produce accurate, high-quality lighting documentation
- Develop and translate conceptual lighting ideas into coordinated, buildable design solutions
- Collaborate with integrated design teams and project managers to align with project goals and schedules
- Lead technical problem-solving and provide design feedback throughout the project lifecycle
- Coordinate lighting design with electrical engineering for circuiting and power integration
- Utilize Revit, lighting software, and spreadsheets to create and manage design deliverables
- Conduct code research and analyze building requirements to inform lighting strategies
- Present design concepts to clients and contribute to compelling visual communications
- Participate in quality control and ensure all work meets internal and industry standards
- Engage in professional development through mentorship, industry events, and award submissions
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design or a related field, or significant professional experience in the practice of lighting design
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in lighting design
- Proficiency in Revit and AGI32
- Strong understanding of lighting design techniques, construction methods, and technical drawing/modeling principles
- Practical knowledge of lighting science and technology, including its application in design documentation
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex lighting concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong problem-solving, creative thinking, and verbal reasoning abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high-quality deliverables
- Actively seeks professional development opportunities and contributes to marketing and business development efforts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred certifications include Lighting Certification (LC), and active membership in IALD and/or IES
- Familiarity with building codes, energy codes, sustainability standards, and relevant government regulations

The suggested pay range for this position is:
