SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs routine and special laboratory assays of patient specimens (e.g., body fluids, exudates, skin scrapings or surgical specimens), exercising independent judgment when evaluating the validity of test results prior to result reporting. Provides data for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Operates and calibrates all equipment in the area of specialization, evaluates the validity of laboratory data, records tests results, communicates with physicians, pathologists and nursing staff regarding test procedures and results.
As a level II Technologist, conducts competency assessments and is responsible for College of American Pathologist (CAP) Survey Attestation.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in a chemical, physical, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution required.
- Must meet the required qualifications for being an individual responsible for competency assessment and have the education and experience to evaluate the complexity of testing being assessed as defined by CAP (College of American Pathologist).
- Certified Medical Technologist (ASCP) certification is strongly preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of laboratory experience preferred.
SKILLS
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex clinical and instrument problems. Accurate, reliable, and able to work well under pressure and to finish a task once started. Strong communication skills, both in writing and speaking.
