Summary
We are seeking an outstanding candidate to lead our Early Clinical Development efforts in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. We have an industry-leading portfolio in the area with advanced assets targeting the major pathologies of AD. To successfully bring these treatments to patients will require world-class expertise and vision in early clinical development, from innovative trial design to the discovery of novel endpoints and biomarkers, and accelerated Execution.
Job Description
For each program, this will involve working closely with experts in related functions, from drug discovery (BTMS) and biomarkers (GBDD) to safety (SABR), regulatory and clinical operations (GCO). Close interactions with Late Clinical Development will also be necessary to ensure efficient handover of drugs that have reached proof of concept. In parallel, the successful candidate will partner with the VP/Head of the AD\u0026D Research Unit, the Head of AD\u0026D Research, and with Business Development to develop an innovative and broad-ranging early clinical pipeline.

The Head, AD\u0026D ECD will be recruited at the level of Senior Medical Director. He/she will be accountable company-wide for the design and execution of our early clinical development pipeline in AD and FTD. Moreover, he/she will be a key member of the group that defines our strategy in dementia from early discovery to the real world.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
*\tProvide leadership and oversight for Biogen's portfolio of assets in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia from Research to Development transition to end of Ph2 studies (Proof of Concept)
*\tWork closely with the VP/Head of AD\u0026D RU and the Head of AD Preclinical Research to create a seamless, innovative and industry-leading pipeline from idea to POC. Experience in translational neuroscience will be a significant advantage.
*\tMentor more junior clinicians responsible for individual portfolio programs
*\tActively research and evaluate external clinical programs that present partnering or M\u0026A opportunities
*\tPresent relevant Early Clinical Development programs and strategy at all governance committees including the R\u0026D Leadership Team, the Early Development Governance Committee and the Executive Committee
*\tBuild a current state assessment, future state vision, and prioritized roadmap for how Biogen can create a winning and durable pipeline in AD \u0026 FTD
*\tEnsure effective decisions are being made to establish proof of biology and prepare for transition to Phase 3 across the early AD drug portfolio
*\tManage interactions with a disparate set of groups and individuals and bring them together into a highly functioning ECD structure.
*\tRepresent AD\u0026D clinical development at FDA, CHMP, PMDA and other regulatory agencies
*\tInterface with KOLs and patient advocacy groups for improved trial design and clinical meaningfulness
*\tBe an ambassador for the quality and rigor of Biogen clinical development in neurology and adjacent areas.

Qualifications
*\t8+ years of overall relevant experience within pharmaceutical/biotech industry or academic medicine
*\tPrevious leadership experience leading direct teams and through a matrix environment
*\tDrug development expertise including clinical development planning and biomarker strategy
*\tAbility to drive swift decisions involving numerous stakeholders
*\tAbility to communicate effectively at all levels and present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity
*\tAble to facilitate discussions among groups with diverse technical expertise and drive decisions on complex issues
*\tSubspecialty training in Dementia and Memory Disorders preferred but not required
Education
MD or MD/PhD, Board certification in Neurology
