Description: What you'll be doing

Change a life. Change the future! Another Source’s client, Monterey Bay Aquarium, is recruiting a Youth Development Manager to join their growing team in Monterey Bay, CA.

Why Join Us?

At the Monterey Bay Aquarium, we believe in the power of young people to lead the way in ocean conservation. As our next Youth Development Manager, you’ll oversee some of the Aquarium’s most impactful and community-rooted experiences: Ocean Learning Adventures (OLAS) and Teen Conservation Leaders (TCL).

These aren’t just programs—they’re pathways to belonging, leadership, and transformation. OLAS connects teens from local coastal communities of color to ocean exploration and conservation through immersive outdoor adventures, while TCL empowers youth to grow as interpreters, educators, and environmental leaders within the Aquarium. Your work will be at the heart of creating safe, bilingual, and culturally responsive spaces where teens develop confidence, build relationships, and discover their power to shape the world.

As a strategic leader and mentor, you’ll guide program design, staff development, and community engagement. You'll also be able to publish your work, represent the Aquarium nationally, and help drive a vision that makes conservation accessible, inclusive, and empowering for all.

This is more than a management role—it’s a chance to build a future where all youth see themselves as scientists, leaders, and protectors of our blue planet

Relocation Assistance is offered for this role.

Salary:  $84,600- $104,000 depending on alignment of experience and internal equity

Work Schedule: On-site Tuesday – Friday with some hybrid flexibility on Mondays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a true middle manager, supporting and advocating for a team of early-career Education Specialists in full-time, entry-level roles—helping them thrive and grow in their careers
  • Mentor and lead seasonal and year-round program staff who bring OLAS and TCL to life
  • Cultivate teen-focused programs grounded in wellness, team-building, and culturally relevant learning
  • Partner with community organizations and cross-functional Aquarium teams, from guest experience to animal care
  • Elevate staff and participant voices in program development and internal conversations
  • Model transparency, trust, and collaborative leadership—especially during a time of exciting change and growth

Required Experience:

  • Has 5–7 years of team leadership or management experience
  • Deep commitment to DEIA and has lived or professional experience with bicultural youth engagement
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred) and bicultural awareness
  • Holds or is willing to obtain First Aid/CPR and clean driving credentials

Preferred Skills:

  • Informal teaching, youth counseling, or community programs experience
  • Water safety or outdoor experience

Here’s What Makes the Role Especially Exciting:

  • You’ll lead programs where students kayak, snorkel, and hike while learning marine science
  • You'll mentor teens as they guide guests through exhibits, teach conservation, and inspire action
  • You’ll work in one of the most stunning environments on the planet—with dolphin sightings at staff meetings and a view that never gets old
  • You'll be part of a team that values collaboration, transparency, and professional growth
  • Your work will ignite passion and open doors for youth from underserved communities

This is more than a job — it’s a mission. At Monterey Bay Aquarium, you'll have the opportunity to do work that matters alongside people who share your passion for education, conservation, and equity. Whether you’re helping a Education Programs teammate put on a stellar program, providing insight on curricula, or engaging with local coastal communities of color, no two days are the same at Monterey Bay Aquarium!  https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/

Why a Career with Monterey Bay Aquarium is for You:

Benefits:

  • Floating holidays, vacation, and sick time
