Job Summary

 The Research Scientist position plays a critical role in designing, executing, and interpreting complex research projects within the lab. The individual will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team, performing sophisticated laboratory procedures and data analyses to contribute significantly to ongoing studies.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

 Research:

  • Collaborate with the PI and research team to formulate project objectives, experimental designs, and proposals.
  • Execute advanced scientific experiments, employing complex laboratory techniques, and meticulously analyze and interpret the resulting data.
  • Refine existing experimental methods and proactively develop innovative research approaches to address project-specific needs.
  • Design, develop, and document detailed experimental protocols.
  • Continuously monitor project progress, proposing and implementing modifications as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with data management policies, curate, and maintain datasets.

Communication:

  • Prepare and contribute data and findings to scientific publications, presentations, grant applications, and other professional documentation.
  • Support the PI in preparing and submitting manuscripts and grant proposals.

Staff Management:

  • Provide guidance, training, and supervision to junior researchers and students in laboratory methods and techniques.
  • Participate in additional duties and special projects as directed by the PI.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or PhD in Biological Sciences, Physiology, Vision Science, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant research experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of scientific research principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficient in specialized laboratory research techniques including, but not limited to:
  • Small animal handling (mice), including surgical procedures, injections, imaging, laser models, and organ harvesting.
  • Molecular biology techniques (RNA/DNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, Western blot, Flow Cytometry, Cell Sorting)
  • Cell biology techniques (cell culture, primary cell isolation, immunostaining, and cell-based immunofluorescence assays)
  • Confocal and epifluorescent microscopy, electron microscopy, and live cell-imaging
  • Data processing with image processing platforms (ImageJ)
  • Comprehensive knowledge in statistical methods (GraphPad Prism)
