Job Description:

APEX Systems is seeking Technical Writers to join our high-performing team in developing technical documentation for advanced military systems! If you are interested in learning more, apply TODAY!

Shift: Hours may vary between 35 - 45 hours per week.

Location: Onsite in Elkridge, MD.

Compensation: $30-37/hr, based on relevant experience

Duration: 6+ month contract with the potential to extend/convert full-time

Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

Responsibilities:

Write, rewrite, and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate technical information and instructions clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences.
Oversee the preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
Conduct quality reviews of materials.
Publish materials in various formats, including page-based, electronic (basic and interactive), structured (HTML, XML, and SGML).
Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to develop and deliver sensor/system technical manuals to varying levels of detail and delivery formats.
Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for program/project reports, whitepapers, articles, and other documents.
Research and compile information from program documents, engineering sources, etc., to develop manual outlines and adhere to military/civilian specifications and standards of technical writing.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be proactive, possess excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline or related field, or military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks, and information technology-based sensors/systems.
Expert knowledge of MS Office Products.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications, such as MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.
Proven ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
Excellent attention to detail.
Self-starter and engaged team member.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ technical writing experience.
Knowledge of standard content management strategies.
Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
Knowledge of standards – XML, SGML, HTML, S1000, and DITA – for structured content.
