Summary:
The System Executive Director, Strategic Planning leads a high-impact consulting team focused on establishing UNC Health’s overall strategy roadmap. In this role, the System Executive Director partners with senior leadership to set the organization’s overall strategic direction, manages the development of plans and major system initiatives, and ensures the success of projects both as an individual contributor and as a project team leader. This is a highly cross-functional, collaborative role requiring proactive thought leadership and comfort managing complex and fast-paced engagements. Examples of project work include growth planning for key clinical service lines, markets, hospitals, and physician groups; facility and ambulatory planning to expand services to patients; evaluation of new partnerships and M&A-related strategies; support for major enterprise-wide initiatives and system priorities.
As the System Executive Director, Strategic Planning, you will report to the VP, Strategic Planning and work with a team of strategy leaders and teammates. The position collaborates with two peer System Executive Director-level strategy leaders, each with unique areas of assigned responsibility. Together, these individuals manage a portfolio of projects and project teams to drive a highly-coordinated and impactful strategy agenda. The position will have multiple direct reports, which may include Strategy Consultants, Sr. Strategy Consultants, Engagement Managers, and Principals on the Strategic Planning team. The System Executive Director is responsible for departmental management duties such as recruiting, coaching, and developing teammates, and will contribute to building a great team culture and work environment. They will promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence to enhance the team's overall effectiveness. The leader will often work closely with colleagues across Corporate Development, Strategic Intelligence, and the Transformation office, all part of UNC Health’s Strategy and Growth division.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic- Promotes the short and long-term strategic goals of UNC Health by leading and coordinating the initiation, launch, and prioritization of strategy and transformation initiatives throughout the System. Works with senior executives and System leaders to analyze market trends and identify opportunities for growth. Collaborates with leaders to ensure strategy alignment with the vision and mission of UNC Health. Leads a team who leverages data and analytics to track and communicate initiative progress against the strategic objectives. Supports setting annual long-term goals for the organization. Identifies risks and challenges that may impact UNC Health’s ability to achieve its goals and develops contingency plans when needed.
2. Operational- Monitors the implementation of strategic plans and initiatives across the system. Effectively communicates and implements the UNCHCS strategy for Executive leadership. Translates ideas identified by senior leadership into actionable items and directly oversees implementation of these opportunities. Ensures ideas of leaders align with organizational goals. Sets and monitors operational metrics to measure success of strategic plans and initiatives. Assesses budget spend and return on investment of all strategy and transformation initiatives.

● Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline.

Professional Experience Requirements:
● Ten (10) years of related experience, including seven (7) years of management experience.

● Strong and proven interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent project management skills.
● Demonstrated expertise in the development of trusting relationships and partnerships.
● Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
