THE COUNTY OF MARIN HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

The Human Resources Department comprises approximately 45 positions and provides centralized services to the County's 22 departments.  The divisions/units within Human Resources include recruitment, classification and compensation, employee and labor relations, risk management, disability management, employee benefits and wellness, equal employment, employee learning and organizational development, volunteers and interns, and departmental administration.  

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is seeking one temporary, part-time intern to assist with media, marketing, and social media management. The intern will create targeted and engaging online print, and video content designed to attract world class talent to the County of Marin.  The intern will support branding initiatives and use a variety of tools, including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite, filesharing programs, SharePoint, font managers, and Microsoft Office 365. Tasks will include designing promotional materials such as postcards, posters, and display banners for use at career fairs and on social media.  The intern may also attend career fairs to promote County of Marin careers and the MarInterns program.  

Additionally, the intern will maintain digital repositories for staff use, ensure social media accounts are updated with accurate and timely information, and leverage other tools to communicate with the public and County employees.  This position is part of a small, collaborative, and creative team, and adaptability to change is essential.

This internship will begin June/July 2025 with a maximum of 35 hours a week.  Work will be onsite with the possibility of remote work and will run through August/September 2025. There may be an option of extending the internship through December on a part-time schedule, with the exact schedule to be determined in consultation with the supervisor.  The position is located at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael and does not offer benefits.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern with a passion for marketing, video, and digital communication. Under supervision of a Principal Human Resources Analyst, the intern will assist with the planning and production of video content for both public and internal use. The intern will collaborate across multiple divisions to support various communication activities, including digital graphic design, social media content creation, research, community outreach, and other communications tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate is tech savvy, proactive, curious, creative, and analytical. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines are essential.  This intern should be confident in proposing new ideas and solutions. Experience in film creation (e.g., pre-production, shooting, editing, and post-production) is preferred, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc.) is required. While experience with studio production is preferred it is not required.

Examples of Duties:

  • Create content internally and externally i.e. update HR social media channels: LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, County's intranet, and look at a TikTok channel.
  • Develop relatable and engaging content that highlights County recruitments, staff, and interns, HR initiatives, L&OD (Learning and Organizational Development) courses and Open Enrollment events.
  • Support photography, video production, and graphic design efforts to enhance visual storytelling e.g. video on new Open Enrollment process.
  • Assist in content planning and scheduling to maintain a consistent posting calendar.
  • Track social media metrics and engagement to help guide content strategy.
  • Utilize graphic design principles to create digital communications, infographics, posters, flyers, and other digital publications.
  • Organize and maintain a video, photo, and digital library.
  • Evaluate prospective video and communication projects for consistency with the County's policies and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework in Advertising, Marketing, Communications or another related field.
  • Knowledge of applications and tools to create content (video editing, graphic design, Canva, photo editing).
  • Online content management skills.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools e.g. Hootsuite, Buffer, etc., to create interesting and effective social media marketing materials.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Familiar with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), content creation, and social media management.
  • Good sense of branding and audience engagement.
  • Ability to understand data metrics and how to drive traffic.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated (within one year) from a college or university program with an emphasis in communications, film/video production, multimedia studies, or digital graphic design. Individuals pursuing a degree in a different field of study, but with a strong background or alternative certification in film/video production or communications, are welcome to apply.
