STAFF ACCOUNTANT
Please Note; As per current corporate policy, you will be required to be IN the office at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA (GA Power HQ) a minimum of four (4) days per week and/or as additionally required.
Description
The Accountant position will be responsible for supporting the accounting and reporting activities of Georgia Power. The position will work on a team primarily responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of documents to support internal and external reporting objectives, including SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K and FERC Forms 1 and 3-Q, other comprehensive income, hedges and derivatives, disclosure controls procedures, debt accounting, subsidiary accounting, and monthly closing of the Company’s financial records.
This position will work closely with other support groups within Georgia Power and the Southern Company system, as well as with internal and external auditors.
Major Job Responsibilities
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of journals and account reconciliations in order to ensure timely month-end closing and integrity of financials.
- Prepares assigned sections of and compiles support for required external reports, which include SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K and FERC Forms 1 and 3Q.
- Analyzes general ledger data trends to support variance conclusions for Georgia Power’s financial statements.
- Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, including compilation of control evidence.
- Promotes innovation, improves repetitive processes, and creates efficiencies in a dynamic work flow environment.
- Assists with management of the monthly close process.
Job Requirements
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
- Up to 3 years of experience in the accounting field
- Proficiency in applying U.S. GAAP
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and/or CPA (or equivalent)
- Experience in public accounting, technical accounting research, FERC accounting, and/or financial reporting
- Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP is a plus
