Job Summary

Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned and proactive Senior BI Azure System Administrator to lead the design, administration, automation, and monitoring of our BI platforms across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI. This role includes ownership of Fabric capacity management, governance, DevOps enablement, and performance optimization to support a scalable and secure enterprise analytics environment.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft Fabric Administration:

  • Lead end-to-end administration of Microsoft Fabric, including:
    • Capacity provisioning, workspace configuration, and environmental setup.
    • Implement and maintain per-operation CU (Capacity Unit) limits to ensure fair resource allocation and prevent runaway workloads.
    • Configure workspace assignment rules to optimize capacity usage across business units.
  • Design and enforce Fabric governance policies around usage, quotas, permissions, and lifecycle management.
  • Enable centralized monitoring and alerting for Fabric capacities using tools like:
    • Microsoft Fabric Capacity Metrics App
    • Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
    • Custom alerts based on workload CU consumption thresholds, memory spikes, or refresh failures.

Azure & BI Platform Administration:

  • Manage Azure-based services such as Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Key Vault, and Storage for BI workloads.
  • Oversee Power BI tenant-level administration including:
    • Premium/Fabric workspace management
    • Dataset refresh policies
    • Service principal management
    • Power BI REST API usage and auditing

DevOps & Automation:

  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines for Power BI and Fabric assets using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or other automation platforms.
  • Automate workspace deployment, dataset refresh scheduling, and capacity assignment using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or REST APIs.
  • Use infrastructure-as-code (e.g., ARM, Bicep, Terraform) for deploying Azure and Fabric resources in a repeatable, secure way.
  • Implement monitoring dashboards and logging pipelines for capacity usage, system health, and user activity.

Security & Governance:

  • Implement granular RBAC, security groups, and access control across Azure, Power BI, and Fabric.
  • Enforce compliance and data protection policies.
  • Regularly audit BI platforms for unused assets, compliance gaps, and cost inefficiencies.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Provide L1 support for BI platform issues including Fabric pipeline failures, CU throttling, or capacity overutilization.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and business analysts to ensure optimal platform usage and performance.
  • Maintain and share documentation, training guides, and operational runbooks for Fabric administration.

Innovation & Optimization:

  • Monitor Fabric feature releases and stay up to date with roadmap developments.
  • Recommend optimization strategies such as load balancing, capacity scaling, and CU-based cost management.
  • Proactively identify underperforming or misconfigured resources and recommend remediations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in BI and cloud platform administration.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure BI services and Power BI administration.
  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Fabric components, CU-based capacity model, and Fabric governance.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or Azure CLI) for automation and DevOps.
  • Familiarity with Fabric monitoring tools and alerting best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications:
    • Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
    • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator)
    • DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer)
    • PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst)
  • Experience with Power BI REST APIs, deployment pipelines, and capacity planning tools.
  • Background in managing large-scale Fabric or Premium deployments with multi-tenant workspaces.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and setting up alerts for workload spikes and performance anomalies.
