About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Shared Services Technology organization. This Principal Engineer will help enable the transformation of data environments. This person should be able to vision, articulate the vision, and execute on it. The scope will be consumer data, across multiple lines of businesses and product lines, partnering with other engineering managers, product owners and front-line business experts. Be able to look around the bend, problem solve and work with competing priorities. Be seen as an influencer and hands on leader. Will drive current state assessments, establish optimal target state and roadmap.


In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions

  • Define and implement Data Strategy for private and public cloud

  • Lead and perform current state data assessments, create future state vision, strategy, roadmap

  • Ensure Data-related design patterns, best practices are central to technology practices in the organization

  • Create and manage reusable frameworks for data engineering and establish architecture patterns for data engineering across traditional and big-data solutions

  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

  • Partner with Enterprise teams and Line of Business partners on customer-centric view of the data, data reuse, and data consistency across all customer interactions

  • Establish processes and tools to support consistency, lineage, collection, processing, sharing, and organization of data across Home Lending portfolio

  • Establish Home Lending wide data standards and governance. Manage data as a strategic asset and operationalize data governance, data quality, and controls across the organization

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 7+ years of technical leadership or architecture experience, in a data and technical environment to include Data Engineering, Data Management, ETL, Big Data Hadoop, AI/ML capabilities

  • 3+years of cloud data solutions experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • A master's degree or higher in computer science or finance

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience Hadoop ecosystem tools such as Apache Flume, Apache Kafka, Apache Sqoop, Apache Flink, Apache Hive or Apache Storm

  • Agile Scrum (CSM), SAFE certifications or other advanced Agile certifications

  • Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings) and Kanban

  • Knowledge and understanding of home lending or consumer lending

  • 7+ years of information technology systems design and planning experience in data, systems, applications, or architecture

  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience with large scale transformation efforts and ability to drive Technology decisions with senior level stakeholders

  • 5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design

  • 5+ years of experience with modern software engineering technologies and tool sets


Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
