Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design and implementation of monitoring, communication, and system control hardware and software. The ideal candidate will have experience in the renewable energy sector. This job provides the group with expertise in electromechanical relay control as well as PLC/HMI/SCADA systems development and testing. Help to create monitoring and controls systems for energy infrastructure. Position yourself in a robust industry with tremendous growth potential in the area of performance monitoring for renewables. Title: Senior Controls Engineer
Location: Warrendale, PA (Hybrid, 3 days remote each week)
Salary Range: 125-140k & 12% bonus potential
What You’ll Do:
- Design and Innovate: Lead the development and integration of PLC systems and SCADA software, driving advanced solutions for substation monitoring and control.
- Enhance Processes: Identify opportunities to improve product quality, reduce lead times, and streamline construction designs for greater efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Define Specifications: Collaborate on creating precise hardware and software specifications, while preparing and reviewing detailed mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Review and validate renewable energy system designs from external firms.
- Develop internal standards and best practices for system integration.
- Ensure quality of power system drawings and SCADA designs.
- Work with inverters, batteries, and renewable energy components.
- Understand product communication protocols and data tag structures.
- Handle I/O lists for data transmission to controllers in renewable projects.
- Ensure accurate HMI/GUI data presentation for customers.
- Conduct design reviews with external consultants and customers. (POWER engineers)
- Interface with major vendors and suppliers to understand circuit designs.
- Explain software applications and project-specific integrations to customers.
- Occasionally participate in commissioning activities.
- Participate in design reviews for STATCOM projects in Japan.
- Proven Expertise: A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 7+ years of experience or equivalent.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced knowledge of network protocols, logic/control platforms, and system programming.
- Instrumentation Savvy: Deep understanding of process instrumentation and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Problem Solver: Exceptional analytical skills and a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex challenges.
- Tech-Forward: Advanced proficiency in MS Office and related tools to drive efficiency and collaboration.
- Collaborative Communicator: Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
