JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the instruction, development, and training of all Southern Company and Alabama Corporate Security personnel. This position will be responsible for ensuring training standards meet industry standards and ensure Company modernization & standardization initiatives around firearms, defensive tactics, executive protection, emergency storm response and other related security industry training topics.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 5 years of security training, law enforcement, or applicable military training (ie, military police, security forces, or master at arms)
- Must have 5 years of experience in Executive Protection Training and Development
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Extensive knowledge of firearms, security/law enforcement training, emergency response, and applicable laws
- Certified Firearms Instructor required
- Defensive Tactics Instructor preferred
- Use of Force Instructor certification preferred
- Extensive knowledge in scenario-based training, hostile intruder (active shooter)+ response (ALERRT), for security and non-security personnel
- Ideal candidate will have experience in development, implementation, and instruction of security/law enforcement training programs and curriculum
- Experience and knowledge in Emergency Response Training and Development preferred
- Experience in training basic law enforcement/security academy courses preferred
- Must be comfortable working in Microsoft Office Suite
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training Coordinator:
Under general supervision of the West PSOC Supervisor, the training coordinator is responsible for the instruction, development, and facilitating training for all Southern Company Corporate security and Alabama Power security employees only. Ensures training efforts are following Company policies and procedures, and industry best practices. This includes Basic Security Officer training, firearms, defensive tactics, and other disciplines needed by members of the department. The training coordinator will follow and enforce all company policies and procedures, along with state, federal and local laws related to the use of deadly force and carrying of a firearm. The training coordinator provides leadership to a diverse team of instructors within each of the functional areas of the Corporate Security Department.
The training coordinator will provide classroom, firearms, range, decision shooting simulator, hostile intruder and defensive tactics instruction to security employees. Must be proficient in evaluating, identifying weaknesses, motivating, and assessing the security team while providing training to help them succeed. The training coordinator must be able to mitigate risk and liability to the company by having extensive knowledge on best practices and applicable laws in the area of security and law enforcement training. The training coordinator will also manage and oversee all Southern Company firearms ranges throughout the footprint and ensure any outside law enforcement agencies using them adhere to company policies and procedures.
In addition to training, this position will assist the West PSOC Supervisor by providing security related services throughout Southern Company’s enterprise. This position will assist with ensuring all modernization initiatives and security initiatives are adhered too.
Lastly, this position will be responsible for participating in storm response. This may include coordinating, participating or leading a storm restoration effort on behalf of Corporate Security.
