Overview

Legacy Logo for Offer Letters

The Legacy mission of making life better for others includes the whole person. Our psychologist residents focus on the mental, emotional and behavioral health of a variety of patients. For some, this is their primary reason for seeking medical attention; for others, a contributing factor has weakened their psychological state. No matter the circumstances, their cases must be viewed with professionalism and compassion. Are you committed to improving the psychological well-being of patients and giving them the best possible chance for strong mental health? If so, we invite you to consider joining the Legacy community.

A psychologist resident is a resident in psychology in post-doctoral training at Legacy Health. Residents provide patient care services, according to their level of responsibility, under the supervision of credentialed psychologist members of the Medical Staff. The one (1) year full time residency adheres to a practitioner-scholar model with the primary focus on the goal of changing the face of healthcare including behavioral health as an indispensable component of healthcare and the patient centered treatment. The resident training program offers an opportunity to become comfortable and competent working in the interdisciplinary context of team-based care, providing consultation to medical providers and providing psychology and behavioral health treatments with patients. The resident will function as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team in their clinic. This training structure allows the resident to grow his or her clinical skills with a highly varied population with both longitudinal and specialty rotations. Psychologist residents are also responsible for educating other residents and psychology students, as appropriate for their level of training, and as assigned by their Program Director.

Education: Must be a graduate of a school accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), or a graduate school of psychology evaluated by an Oregon Board- recognized credentialing body if working in Oregon or a Washington Board-recognized credentialing body if working in Washington. Note: ACA-accredited programs in Canada do not require evaluation.

Internship: Must complete an internship as part of the doctoral degree program. The internship program must be accredited by the American Psychological Association; or be a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers. If the program is not accredited by the APA or APPIC, for Washington sites the internship must meet the requirements listed in the Washington Administrative code. For Oregon sites the internship must meet the requirements of the Oregon Board of Psychology.

Additional Criteria: Must meet the selection criteria for his/her residency program as defined by the accreditation authority for that residency program and as defined by the Program Director for that residency.

Must be eligible as a psychologist resident in the state in which they will be working. In Oregon must be eligible and complete an Oregon Board of Psychology residency supervisory contract with a Legacy Psychologist Resident clinical supervisor. In Washington must enter into a supervisory agreement with a Legacy Psychologist Resident clinical supervisor.
