Programmable Logic Controller Specialist

Our facility transforms raw soybeans into high-quality oil, meal, and other essential products. As we continue to grow and modernize our operations, we’re looking for a PLC Specialist to join our team and help ensure the reliability and efficiency of our automation systems.

Position Summary:

The PLC Specialist will be responsible for programming, maintaining, and optimizing PLC systems and control networks used throughout our soybean processing facility. This role plays a critical part in maximizing uptime, ensuring product quality, and supporting continuous improvement in a complex industrial environment. The control elements include Programmable Controllers (PLC), Distributed Controllers (DCS), IT network communication, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

Responsibilities include:

• Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC systems (primarily Allen-Bradley/Siemens).
• Develop and modify control logic for equipment such as conveyors, extractors, dryers, and oil refining systems.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to resolve automation-related issues.
• Monitor control systems for performance, making adjustments as needed to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Document control system changes and maintain accurate backups of PLC/HMI code and schematics.
• Support automation upgrades, expansions, and preventative maintenance efforts.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and food-grade processing standards.

Qualifications:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of PLC experience in an industrial setting, ideally in food/agriculture processing.
• Strong knowledge of ladder logic, HMI programming, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with process control systems, instrumentation, and motor control.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Requirements:  

• Must have PLC and Visual program training certificates, and be authorized to work permanently in the US.
• Knowledgeable with all electrical equipment and controls (motors/drives, control panels, switchgear, MCC and transformers).
• Proficient with Programmable Logic Controller programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
• Ability to develop and edit HMI/SCADA systems (Wonderware, Intouch, Factorytalk, View, ME, SE, etc.).
• Knowledge of Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, Profibus, HART and serial communications.
