Education Program Manager

The Education Program Manager will oversee the Graham Sustainability Institute's co-curricular education programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. This role involves high-level program oversight, strategic planning, and active engagement with students, interdisciplinary project teams, external partners, donors, and other stakeholders. The Education Program Manager will report to the Graham Institute's Managing Director and collaborate closely with the Dow Fellows Faculty Director in a dotted-line reporting relationship. The Education Program Manager will also have substantial engagement and collaboration with the Office of the Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action and units across the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses. Some program events are held in-person, both on and off campus, in the evenings and occasionally on weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the undergraduate Graham Sustainability Scholars Program, the graduate Dow Sustainability Fellows Program, and the undergraduate Community Climate Action Fellows program, each of which includes setting program goals, supervising student and professional staff, and implementing all associated activities.
    • Lead the planning and execution of seminars, symposia, and other events in collaboration with program leadership, Graham staff, and student coordinators.
    • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, supervising their project progress and providing necessary resources, such as templates and tools.
    • Supervise and mentor an assistant program manager and student interns.
    • Measure, track, and evaluate learning outcomes through metrics and feedback from students and partners.
    • Build and maintain relationships with U-M sustainability colleagues across campus, including school and college administrators.
    • Lead student recruitment and application processing in collaboration with Graham staff, school and college administrators, and reviewers. 
    • Lead partner recruitment and application processing in collaboration with Graham staff.
    • Develop partnerships and serve as the primary contact for external partners, including academic partners across the University of Michigan.
    • Liaise with donor representative and support donor engagement.
    • Develop, oversee, and track program budgets.
    • Engage with alumni and establish a framework for enhanced alumni engagement.
  • Collaborate with Graham leadership, the Office of the Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action, and other campus units to develop and implement new sustainability education opportunities, initiatives, and partnerships.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in sustainability, education, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project and program management.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in student mentorship.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in using Google Drive and Google Suite of Applications.
  • Experience in supervising interns, volunteers, or staff.

Desired Qualifications

  • Over 5 years of experience in project and program management.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing university student programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering collaborative partnerships.
  • Familiarity with University of Michigan schools, colleges, sustainability opportunities, initiatives, and policies.
