We are seeking a visionary Principal Software Architect to lead the architectural strategy and transformation of our industrial software offerings and platforms.

As Principal Software Architect for Honeywell Process Measurement Controls (PMC), you will play a critical role in guiding the development of scalable, highly reusable, interoperable software architecture that works seamlessly within our ecosystem of connected industrial products to support new software and digital services offerings. You will have deep expertise in both on-premises and cloud-based architecture with a strong background in industrial automation or manufacturing, real-time software that connects to physical devices through industrial protocols and IIoT technologies.

You will be play a critical role as part of the PMC R&D leadership team reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering for PMC, with a matrix reporting relationship to the Chief Engineer for PMC.

PMC is a $1.5bn Strategic Business Unit (SBU), part of the Industrial Automation (IA) Strategic Business Group (SBG) within Honeywell. We specialize in gas measurement, control, quality and detection solutions, as well as field instrumentation, terminal gauging and custody transfer solutions. We provide innovative solutions that help customers improve process efficiency, safety, and reliability in various industries, primarily within oil and gas, renewable energy, utility, and semiconductor verticals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the architectural design and platform strategy for a suite of industrial software applications.
  • Drive the modernization and transformation of legacy software into scalable, modular platforms.
  • Define and enforce architecture standards, best practices, and design patterns for both cloud-native and on-premises solutions.
  • Architect connectivity and integration with physical instruments/devices using industrial protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT).
  • Collaborate with offering/product management, engineering, and operations teams to align architecture with business goals and customer needs.
  • Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams, mentoring engineers and reviewing designs and code as needed.
  • Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, and compliant with industry and cybersecurity standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to support platform evolution and operational excellence.
  • Lead and support proof-of-concept initiatives and strategic technical decisions.

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience with 5+ years in an architecture leadership role.
  • Proven experience architecting industrial or embedded software solutions that interact with physical devices.
  • Familiarity with real-time systems, data acquisition platforms, or SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of IIoT technologies and industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, etc).
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems, cloud architectures (Azure or AWS), and edge computing models.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in industrial environments.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, containerization and event-driven architecture.
  • Solid background in security best practices and standards, especially in industrial or OT environments.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills; ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, building management systems, or energy systems.
  • Experience in the industrial automation industry, experience with industrial measurement, control and IIoT solutions.
  • Strong guiding and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and thoughtful skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

The annual base salary range for this position is $157,000 - $196,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
