Purpose of the Position:
Lead engineering for manufacturing improvement, new products, and capital projects.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Direct the plant engineering organization to achieve lowest possible costs, advantaged product attributes, superior quality and consistent, reliable operations. Specifically including:
- Understand, lead and improve the plant's manufacturing technologies and capabilities.
- Engage with division and corporate experts to create a long-term roadmap to expand these capabilities through continuous improvement and step change projects.
- With Plant Operations Manager, create objectives for near-term improvement.
- Create and manage project portfolio for performance improvement, cost reduction, and capital expansion, including supervising project managers to implement these projects.
- Engage with division planning experts to grow capacity on time to meet sales goals.
- This person will be play a critical role in establishing the plant-wide culture and behavior norms, aligned to Corning culture.
- As a member of the plant staff, this person will help develop plant policies and execute these policies, along with corporate policies
- He/she will regularly interact with senior management,
- Directly supervise engineering department heads, and department of 25 engineers & technicians, which will grow substantially in first 3 years.
Education & Experience
- 15 years of manufacturing experience including at least 5 in production operations and 2 years as a 2nd level supervisor
- Bachelors of Science in engineering or BS in another technical area
- Advanced degree in engineering or business a plus
- 2 years of experience in project management
- Experience in new product development a plus
Required Skills
- Outstanding engineering problem solving using rigorous methods and tools
- Quality systems and process control techniques, such as SPC
- Portfolio management and priority setting
- Budgeting and cost analysis
Desired Skills
- Experience in solar module or wafer manufacturing
- Experience in glass manufacturing
- Experience in manufacturing in clean environments
