Full Job Description
- Primary Duties of the Position
- Contribute to the research and development efforts revolving around cotton plant propagation.
- Carry out necessary operational tasks such as planting, soil discarding, and harvesting of plants.
- Efficiently harvest and process research seeds for further propagation and seed storage efforts.
- Ensure the growing environment is kept clean and free of pests.
- Assist with managing greenhouse conditions including temperature control, irrigation, and fertilization.
- Follow all safety and environmental regulations diligently.
- Professional Relations
- This role reports to the Greenhouse Manager and/or Assistant Manager.
- Interacts with peer roles such as Plant Breeding Associates, Seed Logistics Technicians, and R&D Specialists.
- This position has close interactions with Greenhouse Managers and Plant Breeders.
- Overall Job Purpose:
The focus of this position is to assist with greenhouse initiatives aimed at enhancing plant research. The efforts will facilitate timely submissions related to cotton breeding and the successful commercialization of cotton produce.
- Essential Skills and Experience Needed
- Prior experience working in greenhouse environments and plant production.
- Strong knowledge of plant biology, growth processes, and development stages.
- Relevant experience in horticulture.
- The individual should demonstrate outstanding organizational skills, effective communication, and teamwork abilities, particularly in hot conditions.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with emphasis on task organization, scheduling, and data management.
- Value-Added Qualifications
- Coursework in Biology, Plant Science, Horticulture or Agronomy at the college level.
- A Bachelors degree in agronomy, horticulture, greenhouse management, or a related sphere.
- Contemporary knowledge of cotton production practices, including sampling techniques and data analysis methodologies.
- Physical Job Demands
- Capability to work in hot and humid greenhouse conditions consistently.
- Able to lift up to 50lbs regularly.
- Expect to work between 20 and 30 hours weekly.
Salary/Compensation: $10.00 - $14.00 per hour
