Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Manager to lead and manage all aspects of payroll for our workforce. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in multi-state payroll regulations, proficient in Paylocity, and capable of coordinating closely with HR, finance, and operations to ensure timely and accurate payroll execution.
This role reports to the Corporate Controller and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance, accuracy, and employee satisfaction across all payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end semi-monthly payroll processing using Paylocity
- Process payroll for ~150 remote employees in 42+ U.S. states
- Ensure timely and compliant execution of wages, garnishments, bonuses, and reimbursements
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws
- Manage multi-state withholding, unemployment, and other jurisdictional payroll filings
- Coordinate with finance on year-end activities including W-2s and audits
- Maintain and optimize payroll systems and integrations with Unanet and HRIS platforms
- Perform routine audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy of payroll data
- Partner with IT, HR, and vendors to resolve Paylocity-related issues
- Partner with HR for onboarding, offboarding, and employee changes
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees in a timely and professional manner
- Support financial audits and internal controls related to payroll
Qualifications
- 4+ years of payroll experience, with 2+ years in a lead or manager role
- Proven experience managing multi-state payroll for a remote workforce
- Proficiency with Paylocity
- Strong understanding of U.S. wage and hour laws, including FLSA and state-specific rules
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Government contracting experience
- Familiarity with Unanet or similar ERP systems
- CPP certification or equivalent
