Full Job Description

We are looking for a creative Prototyping Mechanical Engineer skilled in rapid prototyping techniques to perform complicated and advanced electrical and mechanical engineering work of major complexity. This involves collaborating with our R&D team to design, fabricate, and test prototype components, assemblies and systems to aid in the development of new products or the improvement of existing products.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design, fabrication and testing of protype components
  • Collaborates with the team to plan and organize technical design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of mechanical and electromechanical apparatus
  • Performs tasks and experiments to support NMR probe evaluation
  • Uses CAD software to create and analyze designs, run simulations, and test how equipment interacts with other connected systems
  • Identifies and addresses potential issues and faults such as short circuits, poor soldering to ensure the performance, functionality and reliability of products
  • Prepares PowerPoint presentations to report results from experiments for review and analysis
  • Assists scientists with verification and validation processes to transfer the resulting technology to production

Skills

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and ability to analyze, evaluate, and assess complex, interactive mechanical components
  • A minimum of 1-3 years related experience
  • Knowledge and experience with basic machine tools for prototyping etc. milling, engraving machines, lathe, drill press, band saw, and soldering
  • Knowledge and experience with radio frequency, cryogenic and vacuum equipment preferred
  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD software and manufacturing tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) is required
  • Knowledge of Matlab, IgorPro/Origin, Adobe Inventor, and simulation experience with ANSYS HFAA/mechanical, National Instruments AWR, and Arduino is desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
