Job Summary:
The Ophthalmic Manager 1 manages ophthalmic clinical operations, staffing, and equipment to ensure effective, efficient delivery of high-quality patient care and an excellent patient experience. The Ophthalmic Manager I in overseeing clinical operations, including supervising ophthalmology technical staff, such as imaging technologists, managing supply management to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality patient care and an excellent patient experience. This position requires certification in Ophthalmic Technology, knowledge and experience in exceptional customer service, leadership skills, and independent decision-making.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day direction to the ophthalmic tech in support areas, as assigned, to ensure effective clinic operations.
  • Adjusts daily schedules based on patient schedules, available staffing, and patient flow in the clinic areas.
  • Responds to clinical and patient demands throughout the day to provide efficient staff utilization and maintain patient flow and consistency. Possesses broad clinical experience to supervise and perform ophthalmic imaging evaluations as needed. Collaborates with the Ophthalmic Manager II and Clinical Director to monitor staff performance, set productivity goals, and provide regular feedback.
  • Collaborates with the management team to oversee ophthalmic imaging equipment including, but not limited to, maintenance needs, software upgrades, purchase requests, installations, equipment retirement, and inventory assessment.
  • Mentors and trains staff to foster growth, maintain competencies, and ensure compliance with clinic policies and development opportunities within the organization. Identifies training needs of the staff and provides training opportunities to maintain competency. Monitors staff productivity and performance goals.
  • Conducts daily huddles to communicate updates regarding patient flow, staffing, and clinic needs.
  • Possesses broad clinical experience to supervise and perform clinical workups and exams as needed.
  • Ensures clinical areas have all necessary supplies, medications, and equipment by submitting timely orders and requests to maintain efficient operations.
  • Partners with the Clinical Director and Ophthalmic Manager II to lead and guide the ophthalmic team, ensuring alignment with clinic objectives.
  • Coordinates with the Clinical Director and Ophthalmic Manager II to plan, organize, and facilitate onboarding, in-service training, mentorships for apprentices, and team meetings.
  • Addresses patient relations issues and staff concerns, escalating as needed.
  • Participates in annual performance reviews and assists in creating professional development plans for team members.
  • Leads daily huddles and fosters effective communication with all providers and staff.
  • Provides patient-centric care, demonstrating high quality through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.
  • Oversees the purchase and inventory of medical supplies and medications to ensure clinic readiness.
  • Coordinates with management for equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Performs organizational duties as designated. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
  • Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • CRA or OCT-C preferred
  • COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) required
  • COT (Certified Ophthalmic Technician) preferred or COMT preferred

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 24 months of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and EMR systems.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic medications, supplies, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to providing excellent patient care and improving clinic operations.
