Do you enjoy reading about distributed energy, load management, and utility rate design? Do you understand how utilities use batteries for their energy storage or solar programs, or why locational demand response (DR) is important? Do you have experience helping utilities develop a portfolio of programs for energy efficiency, DR, or building electrification? We’re seeking a senior- or lead-level research analyst with interest and experience in distributed energy, energy storage programs, energy efficiency, demand response, and customer-side energy technologies to join our Customer Energy Solutions research and advisory team. You’ll provide actionable, data-driven advice to our utility clients, focusing on distributed energy, load management, energy efficiency, and energy storage. What you’ll do
- Serve as our in-house expert on distributed energy resources (DER), load management, battery, and demand-side management (DSM) programs, with a focus on helping utilities design and implement programs to meet the evolving needs of their customers, their regulators, and the power grid.
- Write and present clear and concise responses to research requests from utility members about DER program design and implementation, energy efficiency, DR, and distribution system impacts.
- Gather research from primary and secondary sources (including phone interviews, internet searches, and in-depth reading), critically analyze the information, and write key findings and best practices in a way that’s easy for audiences of varying technical skills to understand.
- Create clear, concise, data-driven, and action-oriented content for topically focused reports, articles, technical briefs, webinars, and in-person events.
- Engage utility members through in-person and online meetings and customized presentations on various DER and energy efficiency topics.
- Grow to give strategic input to our research agenda and coach research deliverables.
- Mentor junior staff and share knowledge and experience across the company.
- Represent E Source as a subject matter expert at industry conferences and events.

- Demonstrated expertise with DER, load management, energy efficiency, and battery programs, with an emphasis on demand response, emerging technologies, stationary storage, behavioral efficiency, and renewable energy programs.
- A passion for conducting interviews, reading dense documents, and distilling their key points into actionable, clear, and easy-to-understand written communication.
- Exceptional writing, verbal, and analytical skills. ESource differentiates itself through our readable, clear, and concise reports and presentations.
- Experience with electric and gas utility DER and DSM programs.

- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
- Three to five years of relevant experience in the utility or energy consulting industry.
- Proficient with quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with PowerBI, SPSS, R, or Python is a plus.

The budgeted salary for this position is $70,000–$110,000 + annual bonus up to 8%. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
This person can work 100% remote, but preference will be given for a hybrid schedule from of our physical office located in Boulder, Colorado.
