JOB DESCRIPTION

Apex is seeking a highly skilled RF Engineer to act as a Lead Internal Practice Consultant within our Consulting Practice as part of our Apex Systems Solutions Delivery Organization. This role is key in building and supporting our client engagement. The RF Engineer will possess a deep understanding of RF principles, antenna design, and circuit design, along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who can ensure compliance with regulatory standards and effectively communicate technical concepts to clients and stakeholders. The consultant will also provide technical support for Apex sales, solution management, and account teams during the scoping of new Identity opportunities. Some travel may be included.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Technical Expertise:
Understanding RF Principles: Knowledge of signal propagation, modulation techniques, and electromagnetic wave behavior.
Antenna Design: Design and optimize antennas for various applications, ensuring efficient signal transmission and reception.
Circuit Design: Design RF circuits, including amplifiers, mixers, and filters.

Problem-Solving Skills:

Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues such as signal interference, noise, and signal loss.

Analytical Thinking: Apply logical and systematic approaches to solve complex technical problems.

Regulatory Knowledge:

Compliance: Adhere to regulations set by bodies like the FCC, ITU, and other regional authorities.

Safety Standards: Ensure RF systems meet safety standards to prevent harmful interference and exposure.

Analytical Skills:

Simulation Tools: Use software like MATLAB, HFSS, and CST for simulating and analyzing RF systems.

Data Analysis: Interpret data from tests and measurements to optimize system performance.

Communication Skills:

Technical Writing: Write clear and concise reports, documentation, and proposals.

Interpersonal Skills: Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders to explain technical concepts and project status.

Project Management:

Planning and Scheduling: Organize tasks, set timelines, and manage resources to ensure project milestones are met.

Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.

Continuous Learning:

Staying Updated: Keep up with the latest advancements in RF technology, such as 5G, IoT, and satellite communications.

Professional Development: Participate in workshops, conferences, and obtain certifications to enhance skills and knowledge.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

8+ years of relevant experience.

Proven experience in RF engineering and consulting.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.

Relevant certifications (e.g., FCC, ITU) are preferred.

Knowledge of 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards, deployment and management of Wi-Fi access points, centralized management of Wi-Fi networks, and security protocols like WPA3 and 802.1X authentication.

Understanding of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), Massive MIMO, and beamforming, design and deployment of MIMO antenna arrays, advanced signal processing techniques, and channel estimation.

Understanding of LTE/4G and 5G NR standards, knowledge of macro and micro base stations, small cell deployment, RF planning and optimization tools, and spectrum management.

Understanding of Centralized RAN (CRAN): High-capacity fiber connections for fronthaul, centralized baseband units, network function virtualization, and cloud computing.

Understanding of open interfaces, software-defined radio, virtualization, and AI/ML integration for network optimization and automation.

Knowledge of C-Band spectrum allocation, antenna systems, interference mitigation, and satellite communication integration.

Understanding of dynamic spectrum sharing and management, deployment, and management of Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) base stations, LTE/5G integration, and interference management.

Knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) protocols, remote terminal units, programmable logic controllers, telemetry systems, and cybersecurity measures.

Understanding of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) standards, deployment, and management of LMR infrastructure, interoperability, and emergency communication systems.

Understanding of deployment and management of edge servers, low latency networking, virtualization and containerization, AI/ML at the edge, and understanding of ETSI Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) standards and APIs.

Possess in-depth knowledge of signal propagation, modulation techniques, and electromagnetic wave behavior. This includes understanding how signals travel through different mediums, the impact of environmental factors on signal strength and quality, and the various techniques used to modulate signals for efficient transmission and reception.

Ability to provide expert assessment and strategic guidance regarding the implementation and utilization of RF technology in the communications sector. This includes conducting needs assessments, developing tailored solutions, and advising on best practices for integrating RF technology into existing systems.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams is also important.

Ability Design and optimize antennas for a wide range of applications, ensuring efficient signal transmission and reception. This involves selecting appropriate materials, determining optimal antenna shapes and sizes, and conducting simulations and tests to validate performance.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to antenna performance is also essential.

Ability to Design RF circuits, including amplifiers, mixers, and filters. This requires a strong understanding of electronic components and their interactions, as well as the ability to create schematics, layout PCBs, and perform testing and validation.

Ability to optimize circuit designs for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness is crucial.
