Summary: To work with the Head of Installation and Exhibition Design to produce designs for exhibitions and gallery installations that enhance the visual display and interpretation of art on view at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• As assigned, assists in the production of designs for the display of temporary exhibitions, gallery rotations, permanent galleries and reinstallation of collections under the direction of the Head of Installation and Exhibition Design and in consultation with the curators, conservators, registrar, exhibition department and other staff to achieve an appropriate, aesthetic, safe, and informative presentation of works of art on display at the Saint Louis Art Museum.
◦ Design work includes floor plans and elevations, exhibition casework and furniture, architectural elements and construction drawings.
• Under the direction of the Head of Installation and Exhibition Design, prepares space configuration and build-out options, designs casework, exhibition furniture and architectural elements; selects materials and finishes, and produces construction drawings as assigned, to include:
◦ Works with the curatorial staff on the placement of objects to ensure a thoughtful layout and that all works fit within designated gallery spaces.
◦ Follows conservation guidelines on approved materials for casework and provides casework drawings for their approval.
◦ Incorporates ADA guidelines in planning designs.
◦ Prepares detailed drawings for cabinetmakers.
• Participates in production team and other project-related meetings for the review of exhibition plans and layouts with key departments involved.
• Designs and manages miscellaneous projects related to the collection and facility as directed by the Head of Installation and Exhibition Design.
