Who We Are:

With almost 70 years of experience as an independent research, development, and evaluation laboratory for fuels and lubricants, we are well qualified to tackle challenges affecting marine vessels and locomotives, trucks and automobiles, and even hand-held power tools.

Objectives of this Role:
  • Facilitate engine oil tests in SwRI's engine dynamometer test laboratory.
  • Interact with clients to ensure that their goals are being met.
  • Develop project plans and procedures and communicate them effectively to the laboratory staff.
  • Develop new capabilities in response to client needs and be forward thinking in what is next in lubricant testing.
  • Write test reports, proposals and internal procedures.
  • Obtain leadership roles within ASTM forums that govern the standardized test typesthat are conducted.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Perform lubricant testing predominantly in engine dynamometer facilities; maintain working relationship with clients in accomplishment of project objectives.
  • Develop innovative solutions to project problems and expand laboratory capabilities; provide project leadership.
  • Use engineering practices to ensure test quality and test procedure compliance; plan, coordinate and control assigned project; develop and report financial details to client and management; resolve a variety of engineering issues related to testing.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and staff; summarize test data and complete written reports; interact with laboratory and staff during project activity; interface with report groups in handling contractual, legal, accounting, fabrication and purchasing requirements.
  • Market SwRI services to current and prospective customers.
  • Write and present technical papers as need to further SwRI's mission.
  • Field phone calls after hours as needed as the laboratory runs 24/7, all year.
Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 0-5 years: Must have relevant internship experience.
  • Strong communication skills. Teamwork is essential for SwRI project leaders.
  • Must be willing to work part of the day hands-on in the laboratory with noise, heat, oil fuel and humidity. The balance of the day in air-conditioned environment.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
