Full Job Description

This position is responsible for the management and delegation all DA responsibilities and ensures efficient patient flow along with patient satisfaction. The Dental Assistant Lead oversees that all DA responsibilities are done effectively and consistent with MPHC guidelines. This position requires a significant amount of independent judgment.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all the essential functions of a DA.
  • Trains DAs to take high quality, diagnostic imaging as prescribed by the dentists.
  • Maintains AZDHS certification for removal and additional x-ray units. Contacts AZDHS as needed.
  • Responsible for annual inspections of Lead Aprons with outside vendor.
  • Assists Dental Chair with quarterly facility and equipment testing. Reports all finding to Dental Chair and registers necessary information for Clinical Quality Director.
  • Monitors Dosimetry training and orders necessary dosimeters as needed.
  • Trains and monitors DAs to assist the dentist and hygienists in the delivery of patient care. Oversees the preparation of dental trays and instruments.
  • Reviews with DAs to accurately relate information, instructions, directions, and/or consent relating to the treatment of patients at the discretion of the providers.
  • Trains new hire DAs to take and record Blood Pressure (and Glucose if necessary) of patients and provide results for performance use.
  • Trains and monitors all L2 and L3 DAs to wash and sterilize all instruments according to current AZDHS regulations. Oversees and is responsible for Instrument Processing for all departments.
  • Ensures the successful completion of training all new Dental Assistants up to MPHC standards.
  • Responsible for completing all administrative and clinical projects assigned by the Manager of the department. Keeps track of uploading various documents.
  • Ensures compliance within all CLIA standards.
  • Identifies any new equipment needs and requests these from the Ops Manager; reports and facilitates repairs of equipment.
  • Prepares staff schedules to provide adequate cover including contingency planning for staff absence, delegates assignments and communicates to the Ops Manager any staffing concerns. Contributes to work assignments equitably. Extends templates and opens monthly schedules.
  • Maintains clinical supplies, responsible for maintaining the clinical area looking professional, clean, stocked, and organized. Monitors that DA’s maintain neat and organized work areas. Assists in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Be a coach/mentor/resource for CSRs in the absence of the CSR Lead.
  • Facilitates communication between CSRs/DAs, Providers, Ops Manager, vendors. Responsible for timely, efficient, and safe completion of triage messages.
  • Assists in facilitation of staff meetings.
  • Participates in clinical quality improvement initiatives. Works on projects with other department leads as needed. Utilizes methods to increase provider efficiency, continuity of care and access for patients.
  • Ensures all DA’s provide quality customer service using weekly performance audits. Manage and train DA’s to continually improve their performance and skills with the assistance of input from providers/staff.
  • Resolves conflicts between staff members with the assistance of a supervisor as needed; keeping the Supervisor fully informed of staff issues.
  • Trains DA’s with the procedures and cautions of the handling of nitrous.
  • Consistent, reliable in-person attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two years of Dental Assistant experience Radiology/X-Ray certification Coronal Polishing certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least four years of Dental Assistant experience Dental Assistant certificate
