Position Summary

The Part-Time Career & Co-op Advisor provides holistic career advising and supports the implementation and growth of BSU's Co-op Pilot Program by advising participating students, coordinating program logistics, and fostering employer partnerships. This role delivers individualized and group-based career and life design advising to undergraduate and graduate students while ensuring students pursuing internships and co-op experiences are well prepared, properly documented, and effectively supported throughout their experience.This position serves as a key member of the Career Services & Internships Office and contributes to the university's efforts to advance career readiness, experiential learning, and post-graduation success. This is a non-benefited, on-site, in-person position. The selected candidate will be expected to work approximately 15 to 20 hours per week. This is a temporary position from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Subject to funding, this position may be extended beyond the proposed timeframe.
Reports to the Executive Director of Career Services & Internships or their designee. Commensurate with experience and institutional guidelines, the salary range is $30.00 to $45.00 per hour. Please note that this is a non-benefited position and is subject to funding availability.

Essential Duties

Career Advising and Student Support
  • Provide holistic and comprehensive career and life design advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Deliver one-on-one and group advising sessions focused on career exploration, internships, co-ops, graduate school preparation, and post-graduation planning.
  • Assist students in developing, evaluating, and implementing personalized career development plans aligned with their academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Support students in navigating internship and co-op searches through resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, job search strategies, networking guidance, and career coaching.
  • Prepare students and alumni for employment opportunities through coaching and mock interviews.
  • Conduct outreach to students and facilitate career development workshops, presentations, webinars, and classroom-based programming.
  • Encourage student engagement with career management technologies, including Handshake and other career resources.

Co-op Program Administration
  • Advise students participating in the Co-op Pilot Program, answering questions related to program policies, timelines, eligibility requirements, and expectations.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support throughout the co-op experience to promote student success and retention.
  • Manage co-op application, evaluations and surveys utilizing Career Forge Experiential learning module.
  • Administer and support the co-op preparation course, including facilitating workshops, coordinating assignments, and tracking student progress.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus stakeholders to ensure students complete required paperwork, documentation, registration processes, and program milestones.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to troubleshoot student and workplace concerns that arise before, during, or after the co-op term.
  • Track student participation, learning outcomes, and program effectiveness, and prepare reports as requested.

Employer and Program Engagement
  • Collaborate with the Employer Engagement and Outreach team to identify and promote internship and co-op opportunities for students.
  • Maintain relationships with existing employer partners and assist in cultivating new employer partnerships.
  • Conduct employer outreach, site visits, and ongoing communications to support quality experiential learning opportunities.
  • Promote career events, programs, and employment opportunities through Handshake, newsletters, presentations, and other communication channels.
  • Monitor employment and industry trends to inform advising practices and support student career readiness.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the senior management team within the Career Services & Internships Office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in career services, human resources, academic advising, internship or co-op program management, counseling, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide career advising, coaching, and student support services.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, employers, and community partners.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage documentation, student records, and data tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience administering co-op, internship, or other work-based learning programs.
  • Experience teaching career development courses, workshops, or student success programming.
  • Familiarity with career services and learning technologies such as Handshake, Blackboard, Qualtrics, and related systems.
  • Knowledge of current employment trends, experiential education practices, and career development theory.
