Job Title:  Chief Building Engineer

Department:  Operations

Reports to:  Director of Operations - Facilities

Supervises: Assistant Chief Building Engineer, Building Engineers, Painter, Plumber, HVAC Technician, Maintenance Mechanic

FLSA Status:  Salaried, Exempt

Compensation: Compensation is dependent on experience and ranges from $108,000 -$115,000 per year.

General Summary of Position

Plan, Supervise and direct the work and the work force in the Engineering unit, including maintenance of mechanical and HVAC infrastructure and equipment, plumbing, grounds, and facility finishes, and provision of client utility services in adherence with safety requirements/codes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical, plumbing, grounds, HVAC equipment and apparatus and facility finishes throughout the center

  • Oversee operations of outside vendors/contractors performing work particular to the engineering department

  • Make Engineering crew work assignments

  • Schedule and supervise the work of the engineering crew in a manner that reflects the high quality of service intended for the Colorado Convention Center

  • Plan and implement short and long term preventive and anticipated maintenance and repair programs

  • Resolve normal and unexpected technical field problems

  • Develop and implement most cost effective means for operations of mechanical, HVAC and associated equipment

  • Submit operation, Capital equipment and Capital improvement budgets

  • Maintain budget tracking in compliance with operating goals

  • Implement approved purchase requests

  • Maintain accurate set of HVAC, mechanical and plumbing as-built drawings

  • Provide training for new employees

  • Maintain a safe working environment

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Three to five years experience in a facility engineer position

  • Two to four years supervisory experience

  • Experience with computer-based operating and energy management systems

  • High school diploma or GED

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written) and inter-personal skills among all levels of staff and clientele.

  • Work effectively with diverse groups of people among all levels within an organization; skill to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Perform leadership role and job tasks effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

  • Provide customer service in a professional considerate manner.

  • Excellent record of dependability and reliability.

  • Ability to speak, understand, and read standard English

Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills including ability to create word documents and excel spreadsheets

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Possess and maintain a valid and applicable license as a stationary engineer

  • Possess and maintain a valid universal CFC license

Position may require certifications by law and/or job assignment.  Position requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, standing on cement floors, turning, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling; heavy lifting, up to 75lbs; may be subject to adverse working conditions; dust, grime, noise, fumes, wet floors etc., including weather; may require use of an electric cart; may require tools and equipment operation that could cause personal harm or injury, if improperly handled; requires irregular and/or extended hours, including weekends, evening, and holidays, determined by event schedule and/or department need; requires radio usage - 2 way hand held.
