We are currently seeking a Taskforce Chef de Cuisine for a temporary assignment to support our culinary leadership team at Alila Ventana Big Sur. This role is ideal for experienced culinary professionals who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional, locally inspired cuisine.
This is a temporary, full-time position. Onsite housing and meals are provided.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership & Kitchen Management
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring consistency and excellence in food quality.
- Lead, mentor, and guide the kitchen team to meet service and quality standards.
- Support the Executive Chef in managing workflow, team schedules, and culinary strategy.
- Step in as acting kitchen lead when needed.
Food Quality & Execution
- Execute seasonal and sustainable menu items that reflect the resort’s elevated culinary ethos.
- Maintain a clean and efficient kitchen operation with strict attention to detail.
- Uphold plating and flavor consistency across all service periods.
Inventory & Cost Management
- Monitor and manage kitchen inventory, waste reduction, and purchasing.
- Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
Staffing & Training
- Provide hands-on leadership and training to culinary colleagues.
- Collaborate with the broader leadership team to uphold service excellence.
Health, Safety & Sanitation
- Enforce compliance with food safety regulations, cleanliness protocols, and kitchen equipment use.
- Conduct daily checks to ensure operational readiness.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods (up to 10–12 hours per day)
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in high-heat environments
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of kitchen tools and heavy equipment
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Salary Range
$70,600 – $106,000 annually. (prorated for duration of taskforce assignment). This is the pay range for this position that Alila Ventana Big Sur reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education.

Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Chef de Cuisine or Executive Sous Chef in a high-end culinary operation
- Proven ability to lead a kitchen team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong understanding of seasonal, locally sourced, and sustainable cuisine
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Spanish fluency a plus
- Flexible availability for varying shifts, including holidays and weekends
