The City of Columbia, Missouri is seeking full time, highly motivated and dependable individuals willing to provide safe, professional and customer focused public transit service. We have full 8 hour shifts and split shifts available.

Work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with the opportunity for overtime. The starting salary is a minimum of $20.64 per hour plus a shift differential of $1.00 per hour for all hours worked from 6:00 pm – 6:00 am.

Come serve the community with us and receive an employer paid retirement plan along with life, dental and medical insurance. Earn vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay and a 2% match in a 401 A.

All full uniforms and outerwear are provided at no cost, along with a $175 annual allowance for safety boots.

Job Description Summary: The City of Columbia is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Bus Drivers in the Public Works Department. As a Bus Driver, you will operate and transport passengers in buses and vans along fixed routes and schedules, providing exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate buses and vans along fixed routes and schedules, ensuring passenger safety in varying weather conditions.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist patrons when necessary.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies.
  • Consider different points of view to reach agreement, utilizing elements of persuasion for cooperation.
  • Interactions have a significant impact on the organization in terms of time, money, or public/employee relations.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and no airbrake restriction.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of assigned routes, relevant laws and regulations, defensive driving, and accident prevention.
  • Skill in operating fleet vehicles and equipment, effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure, provide high levels of effective customer service, count money, make change, prepare and write basic reports, and work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor environment (Sometimes)
  • Street environment (Frequently/Often)
  • Vehicle operation (Frequently/Often)
  • Right of Way Environment (Sometimes)

Physical Demands:

  • Exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
