Full Job Description
Job Purpose: Engineering Technicians perform plant maintenance and apply mechanical, electrical, automation, construction, and computer skills to precisely operate, monitor, design, service and repair a 24-hour LEED gold certified critical climate control system for a wide range of art that is sensitive to light, temperature and relative humidity. Engineering Technicians are responsible for servicing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls equipment with minimal plant downtime. Engineering Technicians assist in special event set ups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform scheduled and unscheduled plant maintenance duties:

Mechanical
• Air handlers, exhaust, supply, and return fans, heat wheels, pumps, low medium pressure chillers, heat exchangers, multi zone heat pumps, mini-split heat pumps, strainers, high pressure hot water boilers, steam boilers, steam traps, variable air velocity reheat boxes, fan coil units, filter racks, cooling towers, coils, bearings, packing glands, mechanical seals, duct work, lubrication, air compressors, dampers, other HVAC equipment, and fire suppression equipment.
Electrical
• Install, repair, maintain, inspect and read blueprints related to Low voltage to 4160-volt, switch gears, transformers, Motor Control Centers, starters, power panels, breakers, fuses, switches, relays, contactors, dimmers, receptacles, Variable Frequency Drives, single phase and 3 phase motors, generators, battery backups, transfer switches, Ohm’s law, ballasts and drivers, wiring and lighting. All work performed must meet the regulations of the National Electrical Code.
Plumbing
• Duties include using various methods to attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment. Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading and welding. Use specific tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe dies and taps, benders, and welders.
• Install, repair, replace and maintain plumbing systems including sumps, hydronic lines, domestic water lines, irrigation systems, back flow preventers, steam lines, condensate lines, plumbing fixtures, water heaters, drains, vents, and pressure piping.
Controls
• Pneumatic and DDC thermostats and actuators, instrumentation, sensors, automation systems including Andover Continuum, Triduum Ax, Power Link, Honeywell, Lutron – Hyperion and Grafik Eye, Clipsal, Modbus, DMX, BACnet, and Schedule Plus.
Additional duties include:
• Supervising and coordinating contractors during construction projects and service maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and diagnostics of plant equipment.
• Daily boiler and chiller plant logs.
• Open and closed loop water testing.
Required Qualifications: City of Saint Louis: Stationary Engineer’s License Class. High school diploma and technical training in Industrial, HVACR, Facilities Technology or Control Systems Technology. Familiarity with NEC and NFPA. Ability to cut and thread, weld, solder, and braze various pipe materials. Job requires competent manual skills and the ability to handle numerous details with minimum supervision. Physical ability to do manual work, including lifting up to 45 pounds. Must be comfortable with heights. Must have computer skills. Must have good communication skills. Must be willing and able to work nights, holidays and weekends, as well on-call for unscheduled repairs.

Additional Details:
Minimum of Range: $25.23 per hour, commensurate with experience
Status: Regular full-time, 40 hours/week
