Assistant Director of Workforce Development

The Opportunity

Columbia-Greene Community College, a community college dedicated to student success and community growth, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Workforce Development. This dynamic role is an opportunity to assist in leading the college's efforts in addressing the evolving needs of the local labor market by supporting and promoting innovative workforce development programs. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the director, industry, government, and nonprofit organizations to develop and deliver training programs that prepare individuals for meaningful employment and career advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the director in the development of the Continuing Education & Workforce Development Department.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of continuing education and workforce development programs that align with local and regional labor market needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement innovative pathways for career and technical education that provide students with clear, stackable credentials and employment opportunities.
  • Foster relationships with industry, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and SUNY Partners to identify training needs and create customized programs.
  • Solicit, select, and onboard instructors for all training programs.
  • Build training schedules for in-person, online, and hybrid sessions in collaboration with business and industry needs.
  • Serve as the college's representative on workforce development initiatives at the local, regional, and state levels as needed.
  • Track course progress and student success through program completion.
  • Analyze relevant data to inform enrollment forecasts, grant development, and revenue projections.
  • Assist in the management and development of grants for the office.
  • Advocate for the college as a hub for workforce development and lifelong learning.
  • Assist in economic development efforts by local, regional, and state agencies, as directed by the Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.
  • Promote continuing education programs through strategic outreach, marketing, and communication efforts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications
  • Ensure programs are accessible, equitable, and aligned with student and employer needs.
  • Provide holistic guidance and support to students seeking career advancement or re-skilling opportunities.
  • Other duties as required to support department and institutional goals and as assigned by Director, which may include new projects, evolving responsibilities, or special assignments, as necessary.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, higher education, workforce development, or a closely related field. Or an associate's degree and 2-3 years of relevant experience within higher education and/or workforce development.
  • Demonstrated experience in business or workforce development, including planning, organization, and training.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with industry, government, and nonprofit organizations to design and deliver training programs.
  • Preferred qualifications include expertise in best practices for Adult Learner programming and academic pathways, such as Credit for Prior Learning.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of labor market trends and workforce development best practices.

Salary and Benefits Information

Annual 12-month salary, $60-62K, will be commensurate with experience. The College offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, generous vacation, and sick leave, paid holidays, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, tax-deferred compensation, as well as employee and dependent tuition waivers. PSLF waivers offered.
