Position Summary
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:The Assistant Director of Residential Outreach is responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing the department's outreach initiatives, with a strong focus on resident student retention and recruitment. This role plays a key part in co-creating a cohesive and inclusive residential program that centers diversity, equity, and social justice to foster student success and personal development. The Assistant Director provides strategic leadership in several critical areas, including resident student retention, management of student concerns, and outreach efforts. Additionally, this position oversees departmental communications and supports the developmental transitions of resident students, contributing to a supportive and engaging residential experience.The Assistant Director of Residential Outreach is a front-line responder to on-campus emergencies, serves in rotation as an administrator on-call and is required to work in-person, daytime and non-traditional hours including nights and weekends.POSITION TYPE: APA Professional, ExemptSUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Associate Director of Housing Operations and Assignments.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Provides supervision to graduate or hourly employee staff.TOUR OF DUTY:This is a 12-month, exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Standard Schedule- 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Evening and weekend duty rotations
(Staff in this role are expected to support various events including, but not limited to in service training sessions, as well as Admitted Students Day and Orientation Days that may fall on weekends or outside business hours. Flexibility is expected, as hours may shift to accommodate evening or weekend events, and on-call responsibilities.)
Essential Duties
CORE DUTIES:1. Provide day-to-day oversight and management of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) concern forms and other reports involving residents in need of support.2. Coordinate transitional support initiatives and departmental programs, including-but not limited to-Fall Preview Days, New Student Orientation, Admitted Student Days, and residence hall openings and closings.3. Serve as the primary department contact for university-wide residential communications and lead the department's social media and digital engagement strategy.4. Lead outreach and follow-up efforts for resident students experiencing ongoing or complex concerns, ensuring referrals to appropriate campus resources and support services.5. Develop and implement assessment strategies that center the student experience, including administering the ACUHO-I benchmarking survey, annual satisfaction surveys, and gathering student feedback to better understand and improve housing retention, occupancy, and overall residential engagement.6. Assist in developing and executing marketing and communication strategies for major housing initiatives focused on student recruitment, retention, and occupancy.7. Develop and implement departmental training programs for residence life staff, including fall and spring trainings, in-service workshops, and sessions on student transitions, belonging, and support resources. Ensure accessible and organized storage of training and departmental materials via platforms such as OneDrive and Microsoft Teams.8. Assist with the preparation of the Residence Hall portion of the Student Handbook.Other Duties: 1. Serve in the Administrator on-call rotation as assigned.2. Represent the Associate Director of Housing Assignments & Operations at department meetings or other meetings, as assigned.3. Attend all staff meetings and professional development sessions and assist with projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or the Division for Student Life.4. Serve as a chair/co-chair of a departmental committee and serve as a member of other departmental and divisional committees, task forces or projects as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing or designee.5. Support and attend University events and programs - including, but not limited to: New Student Orientation, Admitted Students Day events, Admissions Open House events, Homecoming Day events, Commencement, etc.6. Provide written reports (i.e., monthly reports, assessment reports and end-of-the-year reports) and summaries as requested by the Director of Residence Life and Housing and/or the Division of Student Life.7. Establish and maintain positive relationships with personnel in other university departments.8. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree Required.2. Two - Four years of post-baccalaureate experience in housing/residential life.3. Supervisory experience.4. Experience responding to timely and emergent issues and situations.5. Ability to work with a diversity of people, thoughts, perspective, and practices; demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and inclusion.6. Experience developing and designing professional development programs.7. Ability to use and learn computer programs, including data management tools.8. Ability to execute professional communication in written and oral forms.9. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.10. Customer service experience serving diverse constituents.Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's Degree Preferred.2. Demonstrated experience working with StarRez housing management software and Maxient software.3. Demonstrated experience working with program evaluation, outcomes assessment, and student data evaluation.4. Ability to design and implement creative marketing and communication materials to effectively promote Residence Life and Housing programs, services, and initiatives to a diverse student population.Work Environment
